Differential and transfer case OEM oil for the 2007 Lexus RX350
Hi,
I see on Amazon that they sell the differential and transfer case oil for $43 and $85, respectively PER litre each. It looks like to me they are the same (75W rating for both), but it seems like a dubious pricing of the transfer case one for $85.
Differential oil: Transfer case oil:
Thanks for any info.

That transfer gear oil is for the trucks like the Tacoma and Tundra. That “LF” is Toyota’s designation and additive package for the fluid used in them. Ours just use regular GL-5 gear oil or the 1st option.
I have used and removed the OEM “LT” gear oil on various cars and it isn’t any better than a good 75W90 synthetic gear oil like Mobil 1 or Redline. Doesn’t come out as clean. IMO, OEM gear oil is fine but not synthetic or anything special.

Oem is just a basic standard of quality but plenty of products exceed oem standards. You can get 2 liters of royal purple gear oil for $50 or less if you find it on sale. Way better quality than oem.
or as was mentioned above Mobil 1 & redline are also superb products.

I like Amsoil personally, but have also used the Mobil 1.

Yes, it won't matter. Have been using it in my cars for years with no issue. You could probably run these diffs and T-cases on bacon fat if you had to, they're built like tanks.
Edit: The diff & t-case are originally rated for 85W90, 75W85 is what they now sell at the dealership (possibly for fuel economy reasons?). 75W90 lets me retain the stock 90 viscosity, the 75 "cold" rating in theory should be a little thinner therefore easier on the diff on cold winter morning drives as I live in Canada. I don't care about fuel economy anywhere near as much as reliability.

I used Redline in mine. I’m not a vendor or sponsor for Redline but I like their products and have had good luck with them in my cars. If they’re good enough for a race car, they’re good enough for my daily driver. Others on Toyota Nation can vouch for it too as the 2001-2013 Highlander owners have run it. Those cars share the same rear differential as our RXs.
While I don’t think there should be a problem running that oil, they don’t have their specs posted on the page like Redline / Mobil 1 and they contradict their statement of their oil being “Full synthetic” when asked by a customer.
Edit: Specs found on their site: https://ultra1plus.com/amp/transmission/gear-oil-75w-90-syn-gl5.html
