Default Coolant leak on radiator fill neck

Hey everyone,

Has anyone seen this issue? There appears to be a plug on the inside of this filler neck, I noticed low coolant levels and found this. I’m not having any sort of overheating issues, but it needs to be fixed.

I was considering renting a radiator pressure tester and then putting some JB weld around this cap.

Also, does this coolant look like old Toyota red or did the previous owner put universal coolant in it? Curious to know your opinion based on color.

Thanks!

What year model do you have?

Is that suspect plug plastic? Will it unscrew? If that assembly is plastic, I would replace the entire assembly. Failing plastic components in cooling systems are almost impossible to repair. Far better and safer to replace them.

The coolant residue looks to be pink, which is the correct color of the Toyota coolant in my wife's 2015 RX350.

Here is another picture of the coolant, it does look pretty pink. I imagine as it gets old, pink turns more red and red turns more brown.

Thanks for the reply! I decided to JB Plastic weld it up for now since it appears to just be an ever so slight seep.

If anyone thinks this is not pink coolant, please feel free to respond. Thanks!

Little too late, but if they were dissimilar parts, maybe they could have been separated by turning the plastic piece and all it needed was a fresh Oring. I would have at least attempted that before epoxy.
On the other hand the epoxy will last and all you need it a monthly visual scan.

Hey thanks for the reply! I actually was told that piece is just a glued plug and is not threaded. Apparently people try to twist it and it ends up breaking the seal even more. If it was threaded. I agree, your idea would have been most optimal!

I suspect it's by design. Possibly a weak point indicative that it's time to replace. I recently replaced mine on my 10 year old RX350, along with the radiator cover, thermostat and coolant.
