Default 3rd Gen Highlander (14-19) Suspension On 3rd Gen

You can put 3rd gen Highlander (2014-2019) front struts and shocks on any 2010-2015 RX as long as you get the front lower rubber spring insulators from a 2014-2019 Highlander or 2016-2022 RX.

The benefits? Cheaper, anti-nose dive for the front struts (very apparent!), comfortable, stable and no ride height differences! Fitment of sway bar link, brake line, ABS clip and knuckle bolts is unaffected!

Part list:
Lower spring perch insulator (right): 48158-0E100
Lower spring perch insulator (left): 48158-0E110

Why did you not go with Bilstein front struts and rear shocks instead?

I have the Bilsteins on my 2014 and like them, but my friend wanted something cheaper and softer. They are definitely a lot softer than the B6, but still handle well. Not as well, but a lot better than the Tokicos they replaced.

How are the KYB's compared to the OEM (rears)? I'm also looking to tame the rough ride on my 2013 - the current shocks show no leaks but have 100K miles on them.
Not sure if it makes sense to change when not leaking but I'd like a more comfortable ride if it can be had.
I cannot fink the B4's anywhere in Canada (or a USA option that will ship to Canada reasonably) - they seem to be in very short supply.
So, as far as softness goes, how do the KYB's compare to OEM and are there other options for comfort?

Nice pics BTW - everything go smoothly? Did you compress the fronts by yourself?

The B4s do seem to be really rare now. They are supposed to be pretty stiff compared to KYB - not quite like the B6 but getting there.

The KYBs are slightly stiffer than factory but not by a lot. They handle the bumps a lot better than the blown out and leaking stock shocks though. If you want pure comfort, Sachs / TRW will be softer.

Compressing the front springs was HELL! It was a lot harder than my gen 2 RX and Highlander. The springs are a lot taller and stiffer which is the culprit behind the rougher ride of these larger, higher crossovers. I had to cut one of the rear shocks off the bracket as the bolt was seized into the bushing. I also had to use a torch to get the front end links off. Other than that and compressing those widow-maker springs, it went pretty smoothly!
