trac off and check engine light
#4
I have a 2014 IS250 - First time in March 2021, I just had a check engine light come on with code P0087 - suggesting that there was an issue with the fuel rail (code - P0087 or read: expensive). I also read, I think on this forum, I should first get a new OEM gas cap (Lexus $41), clear the code using a reader then put the case cap on. That's all it took!
Three years later (today). Engine light comes on again now with a friend "trac off" display. Code reader now says, P0172 (“Fuel System Too Rich (Bank 1)”). I go to Lexus, buy another gas cap (now $47), go to Auto Zone (nice guys in Centennial Colorado) clear the code, put the new cap on. I'm on my way! Occams razor - Always assume the issue is a simple fix before you allow anyone to pull the engine. Both times the engine was running as smooth at idle and great pick-up etc... nothing pointing to the isses relating to the codes.
