Default Calibration after windshield replacement

I need to replace my 2010 RX350 windshield. I don't have camera feature or head-up display etc but only the rain sensor and heating element on the wiper bed. The Lexus dealer quoted me the windshield replacement cost (CAD630) AND also a separate calibration fee (CAD300) plus tax. Since I don't have any camera feature (like lane departure, etc.), why do I need calibration? I don't think rain sensor (which only sticks on the windshield inside) requires calibration.
Is my understanding correct?

The rain sensor does not need calibration. Make sure they connect the wire securely. My windshield was replaced by a glass place under insurance and they did not plug in the wiper sensor securely so they did not work initially. I just pushed it in further and all was good again. However you do need the correct windshield when you have the rain sensor and heating options. The glass place looked up the correct windshield by the VIN.

Thanks for your confirmation. I thought so too. Either the dealer didn't bother to check with my VIN, or think they can squeeze a few hundred dollars more from innocent customers.

They may not have pinched you with that extra cost once they actually did the job. Low probability, but it could've just been a mistaken cost adder that they would've caught before billing.

I just heard about this charge on Safelite windshield repair tele ad. Seems like a line entry in an estimate which should be challenged and most likely will be removed based on function/model.
