I am expecting a progression that is something along the lines of the current ES 350, which is the other big mass-produced Lexus sales success. The new model will likely have an evolutionary design, incorporate cost-control measures, and new technologies.
Yes, Lexus has major potential to up their game with each new model, but there are also market realities. For the latest ES, the hype about 'better than LS' was misconstrued to overly high expectations (vs. LS 430, when it turned out the comparo was vs. the original LS 400). The RX hasn't come with much advance rumor except for the touchscreen/controller change, and way back then there was a 'coupe on stilts' reference to styling.
It seems more likely that the evolution in the new model may be like 1LS => 2LS or 4ES => 5ES. I expect it to stay close to the winning RX formula, and so not necessarily be a radical change. However I am very, very curious about potential new technologies and features that the 3RX may have.

I still think they got the size, weight, and interior layout right with the 1999-2003 RX300 and it has been downhill since then.
I especially miss the open area between the driver and passenger leg areas and the storage drawers in the center console (replaced by an awkward storage "pit"). And this area in my RX300 isn't usually used for pocketbook stowage. What were they thinking?
