Orzel,
IMHO, the GLK is faster and significantly lighter. What makes it feel slower off the line is the stiffer throttle feel and the adaptive tranny problem set for easy- going driving, both Mercedes traits. But it's not that much faster.
btw - I used to own a ML350 with the same 3.5L DOHC engine, but it weighed a chubby 4800+ pounds. Car and Driver tested this rig and got about 7.2 seconds 0-60 with a governed top speed of 134, very quick for such a heavy vehicle.
I agree with your observations about recent Mercedes resale values, they are terrible. The CPO program props them up somewhat because of the Mercedes warranty and refurbishment. The non-CPO Mercedes resale values do not compare to Toyota/Lexus.

with all the taxes, fees, and 'packages' you'll be unlikely to be able to avoid getting, good luck getting out the dealer under 45k, but that's still a great deal for such a well thought out vehicle (although i quibble over some design details on this re-design).

The source I quoted from is Automotive News, they are a reputable industry publication. That said, the base price is just that--base. Most models will be sold with some assortment of packages. Still the base is pretty aggressive pricing.

I received a couple days ago an invitation to the Launch event of the new RX at my nearby Lexus dealer, on February 21, 2009. I will get a close look at it then.

How does the RX compare size wise to the cute utes (Q5, GLK, EX35, and RDX)? They all seem to be priced at where the RX is priced?
The new Audi Q5 is a few hundred dollars more expensive($37,200) and goes to above 50K for the top of the line package (w/o options).

But aren't you the least bit po'd that the US market is getting $900 off the base model and Canada is getting screwed with a $3950 price bump?
I know our economy isn't as bad, but come on, that is ridiculous.
If this is Lexus of Canada's position we will, likely, look elsewhere. I know that BMW and MB are already dealing on X's and ML's.
