I love the new push-button start!!! Oh wait, they already introduced that in their other vehicles... never mind.

Ok, lack of tape deck wins some bonus points.

Not feeling the external design that much... internal is growing on me.

Compare pics side by side of the current RX with the new one, I do like all the updates both interior and exterior of the new RX. The icing on the cake of this new RX update would have been the dual port 3.5L in the IS/GS350 to go along with the new transmission (6-speed and ECVT). I'm thinking giving it a couple of years when enough complaints from Lexus customers and magazine reviews about how much under power the RX is compare to the MDX and FX would change Lexus mind.

I will wait until seeing it in person, only time will tell how it will sell given the economic conditions would think most of buyers of this model initially will be existing Lexus owners

Actuall the Venza is better looking than the new RX

Good:
1) The seat adjustment swithches are definitely nice because new feature has been added for better thigh support on long drives
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....46_2010-rx.jpg

2) Heated/cooling Seats look good , the hand rest position has changed, have to see how it feels during the test drive
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....39_2010-rx.jpg
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....39_2010-rx.jpg

3) The spare tire is accessible conveniently and if the TPMS lights turns on it is easy to check the air pressure, hopefully the display shows the individual tire presurres on the display like in other car brands like Acura rather than the generic light Check tire pressure
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....51_2010-rx.jpg

4) It is easy to fold down the rear seats with the help of a handle positioned in the trunk, would have been nice if it was a electric swithch like in Infiniti/Lincoln/Ford
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....51_2010-rx.jpg

5) The guage cluster background blue LED is a nice touch, the current version has a plain white light is boring

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....010-rx-350.jpg

6) No need to press buttons on the Navi anymore to get information about : Outside temperature, Fuel cruising range etc
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....010-rx-350.jpg

7)Engine start/stop switch
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....37_2010-rx.jpg

8) No need to spend money on after market products including Lexus to connect an Ipod, it also has USB connectivity hopefully for MP3 music/slide shows of pictures
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....34_2010-rx.jpg

9) Camera assist on the Right hand side for tight parking spots
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....36_2010-rx.jpg

10)The rear hatch open/close switch has been moved to the dome/map light area
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....44_2010-rx.jpg

11) Seat memory for 3 drivers
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....45_2010-rx.jpg

12) Signal Mirror lights which were long overdue
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....s_rx_press.jpg

13) Choice of LED headlights http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....s_rx_press.jpg

Bad:

1) Power increased marginally from 270 to 275 HP though the weight has increased

2) The DVD screens for rear passengers look really wierd : Looks like the designers forgot to add them first and later stuck it some glue
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....47_2010-rx.jpg

3)The interior cabin layout looks good except for the cabin controls in the middle, the shape is really wierd, you either like it or hate it
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....010-rx-350.jpg
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....43_2010-rx.jpg

4) The gear shift **** looks similar to Nissan Quest right in the middle and obstruct some controls
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....37_2010-rx.jpg

5) Mirros stick out, do not integrate well with the body and look ugly: Looks like the designers forgot to add them first and later stuck it some glue

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....s_rx_press.jpg
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....s_rx_press.jpg

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....010-rx-350.jpg

6) The headlights look like a generic toyota lights
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....s_rx_press.jpg

7) Puffy exterior like somebody just got out of sleep and bland look on the outside
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog....s_rx_press.jpg

Hybrid RX interior:

Whether or not you like the styling of the interior, you have to admit Lexus has never offered such interior color combinations before on the RX.

The interior looks great! From the interior picture, I sort of see there is some metallic finish surrounding the audio control panel in the center.

Besides, possibly Lexus forgot to change the shift lock to North American spec for this pre-production RX, the shape of the shift lock and the way the shift lock functions in this new RX are the same as in Asia.

We always have the key hole in the shift lock, as opposed to the one with a push button.

One comment regarding the headlights, it still shares the cues from other existing Lexus, unlike the previous post that mentions it is a generic Toyota one.

The RX hybrid shares the same cues in LX600H and the subtle curvature on the outer portion of the headlight resembles the one in my IS.

I know the shape of IS headlights by heart as I am a professional clear bra installer who did the install on mine.

Another comment about the new RX's interior. The clear black plastic surrounding the climate control may cause headaches to someone like me who is very picky about fingerprints and hairline scratches/blemishes/swirl marks.

Besides, the mirrors can be power folding! Nice new feature! I wish the North American spec IS has come with this!

Totally agreed. The TPMS that cannot show individual pressure is a half-bake idea that makes it almost useless.

I would think the designers wanted to isolate the electronics for the DVD screens/player from the headrest in the first place. It is a good thing b/c if it got busted, you don't have to replace the headrests or without a headrest while waiting for the back order of the DVD screen.

L-finesse again.. the shapes try to balance each other, especially the main dash and the the shape covering the Navi screen

4) The gear shift **** looks similar to Nissan Quest right in the middle and obstruct some controls

Inconsistent and confusing representation... this time the shift lock has the US-spec, unlike the other big picture that shows a push-button type shift-lock.

The mirrors are consistent with other existing Lexus lineup (ie, IS, GS, LS, etc)

Default Park Assist

In the photos of the RX450h (the silver car) I noticed park assist sensors both in the front and the rear. My impression is that park assist was not available in previous versions of the RX. I definitely think that if available, it is a very useful option!

I believe those might be the backup camera sensors. There is no mention of park assist in the Lexus press release, but the pre-collision system will be an available option, and that might explain the front end sensors.

Then again, Lexus did not give full specs so park assist might possibly be available, although I think Lexus would have mentioned it if it were.

Personally I think the sensors are for PCS and for the backup camera.

the sensors are for park assist. note: park assyst is not the same as self park. so TRD, i think you misunderstood him. they are the sonar sensors for the parking. and this is unrelated to the PCS. that radar is usually behind the lexus logo on the grill.

as for the hybrid interior versus regular, it looks like the only difference is the metallic bit on the shifter, and the woodless steering wheel

I do know the difference between self park and park assist, I just wasn't sure if the RX did have park assist since I don't think the press release mentioned it, nor did the press reveal, but I might be wrong.

The main difference which I'm surprised others haven't mentioned yet is the contrasting color scheme of the interior itself. The dash is mostly black, with the lower panels below the dash being white. The door panels are all black except for that white stripe running along the length of the doors. The seats are white too. I'm interested in seeing how the rear and cargo area look like and if the contrast continues there. The color contrast looks really good and makes the interior look more upscale and more stylish. The color combination is quite similar to what is offered on the IS-F.

i like the interior, its a risk which for lexus is something they rarely do. not giving it more power while the car gets heavier makes no sense. they should have put the DI 3.5 from the IS/GS. plus exterior is boring.

My initial reaction regarding the exterior is it looks like a RX but with some angular design elements from Toyota's SUVs. I was hoping for something more stylish, new, unique, or interesting for the new RX. I found the Toyota's Venza exterior stying very appealing. Will need to see both in person before making a final judgement on either.

I haven't spent much time on the interior so no comment on that.
