2010 Lexus RX - Worth the Premium?

one thing to note, that if you time the purchase of '09 until the '10 comes out, there may not be any '09 inventory left out, despite of the bad economy. Lexus is not stupid and have adjusted production levels accordingly. Even that, with low price, incentives, and currently low gas prices, the '09 is a freakin' value leader for 36-37k.
For anyone considering getting a 2010, think that your 50 large can get you into a more prestigious, bigger, more powerful, and still brand new Lexus, a GX470...It may get 2-3 less mpg but you get a better value. If your mind is set on a V6, then Infiniti's FX35 is a beast.

The new RX is almost as big as the GX (only half an inch shorter and 8 inches lower)
The interior on the RX will be light years ahead of the GX's interior. So you get about the same size car and a much better interior and technology. Why would you buy the old GX?

I have been debating purchasing an '08 400h or '09 350 vs. the 2010 models for months now. The recent deals and incentives that are being offered have made it even more difficult. The main reason 3 months ago that I even waited was because for the money (approx. 50k loaded) versus other brands Lexus was not at the top. It had poor Nav, no smart access, out dated style, etc.
However I have been thinking that the dealers cannot simply raise the prices when the 2010 models come out and claim new models higher prices. Sales have been down over the past year. New models have come out and are coming out from every manufacturer and yet sales are still down presently. New models coming out in a few months when most experts agree the recession is going to last through 2009 will not change the fact people are concerned and not buying.

that is a 10K increase then
I am glad I went with the 2009 model.
Had it been only a 5k difference I definitely would have went with the 2010 model - push button start, remote touch, slick interior and all that jazz.
however, the exterior redesign was mediocre. i might even prefer the 2009 exterior because it is less angular but still as refined.

4 new models in a year is actually a very good thing for Lexus to do. Sales were down at Lexus in large part due to the fact that their most popular vehicle, the RX, is currently ridiculously outdated compared to the competition.
New vehicles mean excitement and more sales. People still have money and they are still spending it. They just need a reason to.

why would anybody buy the 09 RX at this point? doesnt make sense. you are taking a huge hit in options, technology, styling, and depreciation
a mark levenson i could believe to be about 53K but thats with everything in it. you can still get a well equipped one for mid to high 40s

Light years ahead is right, the RX's interior looks like it belongs in a spaceship, not a luxury car. While the Gx's interior is timeless, the material is top quality and workmanship is up to the lexus standard of old. You wont get any of that in the new RX's interior. If I want to drive around in a funky looking interior, I can save $15000 and buy a Subrau Tribecca.

You do realize, out of curiosity, that Lexus dealers don't set the price, Lexus does?

I know for a fact because I have been repeatedly offered the 08' 400h for less than $38K before options- which is $5K under MSRP....I dont think the guy I spoke to called Japan first...

Dealers are allowed to charge whatever they can, but the manufacturer incentives/rebates allow dealers to go below invoice. The current 09 RX350 rebate is 5k. And since the rebate info is easily found on edmunds.com etc customers go in and want the entire rebate off the price. Current prices are 5k under INVOICE, not msrp.

Just FYI, in Canada the premium between the 2009 and 2010 models is $3,950 (MSRP increased from $42,950 to $46,900). Not sure what additional features the nearly $4,000 gets.
