If so,still a stupid set up.
Does anyone know if there is a Navigation Service Menu like the Gen 4 Toyota/Lexus Navi ... where in v05.1 MAP DVD ... you could enter a menu through the volume screen to override the system for a one-time override of the lockout ... until the car was turned off?

After a full week's worth of usage, I feel secure in saying it's a total non issue: it's faster to enter addresses by voice than by hand, and there is no limit on voice input.

* = talk button:

** Destination
* address
* city
* street
* number
* enter

-- takes no time to do it, and you don't have to take your eyes off the road. The system overall is much faster than before, so these commands go by quickly.

I suppose the 2010s are so new it hasn't leaked out yet if there is one but it's doubtful. That hidden menu went away when dvd 6.1 came out and hasn't resurfaced yet and the latest v is 8.1 which must be what is in the 2010 model.

The only problem is that the system doesnt always recognize the street names.

you just hope that you don't have a destination that is Highland Park and is near Highland Place and Hyde Park. It's good that the new system seems more accurate than the old. Wait until you have to get the soccer team to shut up before you can set the dest. or when seals age and the background cabin noise level creeps up. Certainly agree the voice command is a nice feature but as a total replacment for hands on input? Nyet. IMO

I am in the process of having one of my guys in the Lexus Service department research this for me ... but I won't hold my breath .... usually they will know of the way to do it ... but won't tell you for legal reasons ... the whole reason why you can't set the nav while driving in the first place!

The reason is legal to be sure. Doesn't make it a good one. Every other company seems to have figured out how to deal with the liability issue.

I just started visiting and posting a few messages in recent days, so I can't say I know very much about all the posters.

But in your case, do you ever have anything positive to say about the new RX? You seem impossible to please no matter what. You and a few others are always negative. It seems very odd indeed.

Eh, I can imagine it happening (it hasn't yet for me but there are only 1 or 2 in the RX at a time). It really is much better than manually inputting it, though. Far faster.

One thing I noticed is that the "previous destinations" category is available while moving now. It wasn't in my IS, so that's a nice loosening of restrictions.
