The ML reference series in the LS and the LX is pretty good, but not as good as some others in the market right now such as the Bang & Olufsen sound system.
You are correct. I am dissatisfied with my 8 speaker '09 RX but am getting used to it. Shined a flashlight into the grilles and the woofers seem to be those cheap paper cones one would find in a $50 boombox. It does not emphasize the treb or the bass as crisply as some other systems I've seen. Bose home speakers are a joke, a few grand for a hundred dollar system which has no highs or lows. Car ones I've heard in a Mazda 6 are OK.

As the audio geeks say: "No highs, no lows; must be BOSE."
(which, I am told, stands for "Better Off Selling Everything").

I would like to try the 15-speaker ML system on the new RX, hopefully it is pretty good; the 19-speaker ML system on the LS 460 has received some of the top awards...

...in comparison tests from Car Audio & Electronics, MSN Autos, etc. review ratings put the Lexus ML system at the top, over the Bang & Olufsen Audi system and Bose systems.
