Due to the low viscosity, 0W-20 is generally a synthetic oil.

See attached oil spec from the owner's manual.
0W-20 is NOT REQUIRED but rather is recommened. You will also see words like Optimal used. Any oil that has the necessary duty specifications can be used. Be it 5W-20, 10W-30 etc. I would only use a full synethic oil.

I'm pretty sure on this one 0W-20W IS required. It's in the book, under the hood, and on the oil filler cap as well, no other suggestions that I've seen. I don't know how much it has to do with the Atkinson design, but I imagine the 0W is helpful when it's cold for low friction. The engine is designed in every way possible to be as low friction as possible. That's also the reason there is not a belt, A/C, and Power Steering are electric, the electric motor dbls as an alternator and the cams are turned by chains internally.

Before my 5k I'll make sure they have 0W20W in stock or I'll bring some. All the oil I've seen of that weight anywhere is synthetic.

You can use Mobile 1 5W-20 if you don't live in very cold climate say below 0F. I live in Nevada and I have been using 5W-20 and so far so good. I do see 0W-20 in one quart at Wal-Mart, but not the 5qt container.

Wallmart here has the 05W-20W in most brands.

Arrow Non-synthetic may be better ....

The owner manual spec says Lexus recommends oil with a 0W-20 viscosity. However, it also recommends "An oil with a higher viscosity may be better suited if the vehicle is operated at high speeds, or under extreme load conditions". The dealer service manager I talked with said he would recommend a higher viscosity oil like 5W-30 if I plan to do lots of highway driving or pull a trailer. He further said a higher viscosity oil like 5W-30 should not be mixed in with the low viscosity 0W-20 oil unless its an emergency. So sounds like if I plan to take a long trip during the summer that involves lots of sustained high speed driving on the interstate, I may be better off with the higher viscosity 5W-30 oil. Your thoughts?

Heard the same story from our dealer that 2010 RX owners should avoid the 0W-20 oil but instead use SAE 5W-30 (same oil used in the 2008/2009 RX350) if they are planning to do frequent driving at highway speed or pull a trailer.

seems like i remember the updated 10k mile service interval specifically mentioning 0w-20

any reason 5w-30 would not be appropriate for 10k mile services

If you use a quality 5w30 synthetic, you should get 8-10K miles.
I'm going to use Amsoil 0w30 at 2500 miles.
I know about the warranty issue but the chance of a oil related failure extremely small and Amsoil will cover any problem.

The Updated Maintenance Requirements for RX350 and RX450h indicates changing the oil and filter every 12 months or 10,000 miles which comes first. It says replace engine oil with 0W-20 oil. And the 10,000 interval goes all the way to 180 months or 150,000 miles. Thats 15 years!
