Help me choose the right 2010 RX
in this part of the world we get only 3 options
one is the base with cloth seats and no navi or bt, 18 inch wheels
next up is the model (bout $56k USD)with
navi, BT, 15 speaker, HUD, 19 inch wheels, leather, dimming side view mirrors with heat
finanally the one ($60K USD approx)
which got all the above +
pre crash, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, side view camera, dynamic cruise
how good is pre crash? is it worth getting?
im not a fan of the panoramic sunroof. it does get extremely hot here.
will it cause the car to heat up when parked in sun?
will it cause more road noise?
does the car become less safe because so much metal is missing from the roof?
are the ventilated seats powerful enough? do they cool your backside and butt well?

I agree, middle one. I don't see any major reason to pay the difference to get a 2010 RX without the Navi/gadgets (Remote Touch is very cool and I love the backup cam). The 09's on clearance offer a very similar experience if you arent throwing all the gadgets in but they are much cheaper new right now.
as to your questions:
how good is pre crash? is it worth getting? I do not find this feature very useful. The Park assist is really helpful though.

does the car become less safe because so much metal is missing from the roof? - No, even in a roll it should not make a difference as the roll is held up by the side frame and not the roof material
are the ventilated seats powerful enough? do they cool your backside and butt well? - My parents have a 460L and 450h with these and I love them. This could push me to the 3rd option for sure though depending where you live.

Yes, pre-crash and the dynamic radar cruise typically go together, so if you would like the convenience of the radar cruise capability that would be something you can choose. Otherwise, like the other members have stated, the middle choice is probably best. I would shy away from any Lexus spec'd without leather (very rare). Also the panoramic roof is interesting--we don't get that option here in the US. But as you mentioned it could get hot...although I wonder how the covers work (perhaps like the ES 350 glass roof?)

thanks for the input guys.
i dont really want the panoramic sunroof mainly cause of the heat (120 F in summer), also i think it will be more noisy due to the large glass surface.
3rd point is the structural rigidity will be less (imagine the case of a convertible, where manufacturers usually reinforce the sides as it has no roof)
i would really like the ventilated seats, pre crash, and the side view camera. just not sure if its worth paying the extra $4k for these and the dynamic cruise and panoramic roof.
also the panoramic roof cannot be opened like a sunroof. if you have the panoramic roof you dont get the roof rails. i think i like it better with the roof rails.
not sure how exactly the covers work for the sunroof, as i couldn't try them out in the showroom. will do so when i go for the test drive

Wow, what's the point of it if it doesn't open. I know that the other models (2nd Gen) Pan sunroofs did in fact open and had multiple panel, while this one in the picture seems to be only a glass slab in place of the roof which doesn't open at all . The reason Lexus did this is probably because of the rattles people were experiencing, so they decided to seal it shut. I guess the soft covering on the bottom will open and close like a normal sunroof. It is pretty nifty though if you want to visit Dubai and look at all the tall skyscrapers without sticking your head out .

Neat, just wondering what Lexus site did that image come from? I found this tidbit on the Lexus-Mideast.com site:
http://lexus-mideast.com/rx/
(Exterior subsection)
* Compared with the previous RX350, the new panoramic roof is 33 mm longer and 47 mm wider.
* A power sunshade enables users to select just the right amount of sunlight.
* The absence of a crossbar allows for an uninterrupted view.
