Redesign RX350 sales down 17% from the 2009
Usually, a re-design model will have a increase in sale of at least double digits in percentage, sometimes even triple digits. The RX is one of the few Lexus or Toyota that actaully saw a decrease in sales in it 1st full month of sales. I know the economy is bad and the 09 had many factory incentives, but I cannot think of one recent re-deign Lexus or Toyota model that actually saw a decrease in sales after a re-design. If these sales numbers continues, the RX will be another recent re-design Lexus that does not live up to the Lexus reputation.

I'm not sure how much to read into the first month's numbers. Right now a number of redesigned vehicles from various brands, including last year, have not sold past their predecessors, especially as the recession deepens. Overall, the luxury market is exhibiting about 21% drop in sales.
And speaking of March premieres, the new 7-series also debuted this month and sales results were -37.5% over the 2009 model. I suppose detractors could use this to claim that the new 7-series does not live up to BMW's reputation, but given the market and the short duration this may be premature.
Around the new year has been a good buyer's market for older model Lexus vehicles, as in 2008 Lexus incentives were up some 300%, largely to clear out the 2009 RX inventory. This year, Lexus has dropped incentives by about 40% as they have less 2RX supplies to clear out.

i don't think the early sales figures for either the new 7 or RX have anything to do with the merits of the redesign, it's simply a matter of poor timing, since NO ONE is buying cars these days by and large. It's hard to judge the sucess of either redesign on its own since the economic landscape has taken such a drastic downturn. I think sales of the new RX will be fine if the market continues to rebound as it has recently, but it will take some time.

The new Lexus RX is still best compared with the rest of the competition it's just that people are more careful about spending so I doubt it will ever reach the same sales as the second gen at least for the time being. Also i'm sure there are some people cross shop it with some of the new mini-SUVs like the GLK and Q5. Also maybe people are waiting for the new hybrid?

First of all, I find it hard to believe that "RX sales in Canada up 95% over last march." [Canada gets a capital letter but not March?] That's saying that Lexus sold virtually twice as many RX cars in March of '09 as in March of '08. Of course, raw numbers rather than percentages would be more informative (e.g.: maybe they sold 8 cars in Canada this March).
Anyway, with the economy in the crapper and with Lexus doing deals to get the '09 cars off the lots, March should not be the month to use for extrapolation.
Avoid generalizations based upon insufficient data.

The RX was launch in Feb and the BMW 7 series in March. The new BMW 7-series havent has a full month of sales figure yet, wait until next month, the numbers may go up.
