Just to mention, excessive noise is one thing but some exhaust noise may be present; they did this with the new LS 460, adding back some sound.

If it sounds like a diesel engine when idle, its a known problem in all of the Toyota/ Lexus 3.5L engine. I am not sure if even Lexus know what the problem is, some engine are louder than others. It sure would be nice if Lexus is willing to give you a new car, but you should realized that the lemon law usually apply to mechanical problem that render the car undriveable or it is a safety issue. A loud engine does not fall into that catagory. The good new is that, if there any manufacturer that might even consider a buy back for this problem, it is Lexus.

I guess the engine sound comparison can only be felt by those that own a 1st generation RX. I had test drive one couple of days ago and yes I have to say it is far far far more/much disappointment when I sat in a RX350 with so many engine sound and noise as compare to the 1st generation RX300.

Glad to see someone getting the similar feelings on this.

I don't mind the noise from the engine bay, but I do care what kind of noise I can hear...

Vicara, sounds like you have a valve problem, or maybe the lifters. Tell them if they dont get the car back to you soon, they can buy it back.

I was talking about Lemon law... other ppl are talking the same thing. However, is it really going to help get your $ back? Dunno.

Lemon Law seems to only focus on those vehicles with the nonconformity causing the conditions which are likely to cause the death or serious body injury when the vehicles are driven.

"Noise" seems hard to be the target unless you can provide the evidence that particular 'noise" can harm your health.

Some other states' seem to likely go against more issues, including the material defects... Wish I will never have to read/understand them...

I know it has been a few years, but I had a similar noise. Service said it was "normal", and it was the fuel injectors. Just curious how you made out.
