2010 Lexus RX 350 vs 2009 Acura MDX Sport

I know people complain RX shifter is in wierd position. Did you like ML's?
My test drive was aweful. After making right turn, ML all over sudden jumped to 1st gear, and to over 5000 rpms. Turns out, there is pedal shifter behind the steering wheel, and I accidentaly pushed it. You have to cycle through 2-3-4-5 to pick up the speed. Seems kinda dumb, even dangerous.
My neighbor has ML and he says engine is very noisy. He got a killer lease deal on it, but he does not like driving it.
Sorry, I'm on the negative side tonight, for some reason.

Wow, RX one of the worst accelerating cars? If you coming from driving a modern sports sedan, with 0-60 under 7 sec, perhaps. I find it accelerates faster than most Luxury Mid-Size SUVs in its class. The ones I tested were ML, X5, and Volvo XC90. I certainly feel an improvement in merging into the highway traffic over my 05 MDX.
I am also scratching my head about slow Eco mode comments. To me its seemless. If you drive below 2000 RPMs, the green Eco icon lights up. If you accelerate harder, it goes away. Period. No mysterious pushing. No hesitation. No ATM jerkinnes. And I have not even driven it hard yet (above 3500 RPMs).

Just came back from the dealer yesterday, and WOW is all we can say. But the big WOW unfortunately is in a negative way. Third gen RX looks ugly on screen but in person, multiply that by 3. We couldn't stand the front nor the rear. We've tried to stare at it for a long while & had hoped to slowly "get use to it?" but no luck. The inside was pleasing on the other hand, not thrill but a step better than 2nd gen. Beside some awkward curves in the design & the out of place shift ****, we can live with it. Nav software & interface was just ok. the "joystick" like controller was something I could get use to & liked may be. The seats are not that comfortable & leg room is kinda tight for a cross over. Now here comes the drive. Acceleration was ok, we know it's not a "sport" car, more like mommy car so we won't go there. Handling was mushy & squishy in fast/tight corners, ... nothing impressive comparing to 2nd gen. I told my wife to make a decision because it is going to be her ride. She told me to look at other competitives.
At the moment, we will test drive another RX at another dealer as we tend to do 2 drive tests at least before making the call. It's just too bad if the we don't buy this 3rd gen RX because we are a Lexus family.
P.S. I will try to do a thorough comparison between 2nd, 3rd gen & other make after the 2nd test drive.
