Default HUD is the only way to drive

This is my first HUD on a car and after 2500 miles I never look down to check my speed as it is right there in front of me. The GPS works awesome with the turns showing up right in front of you. This is a great safety feature that helps keep your eyes on the road.

It's the great feature. I'm so jealous. It seems to work better than BMW's.

Well, I spent the whole month to search for this car, but this feature is only equiped on the full-loaded RX in my area. So bad.

I'd love to get HUD...

My wife also wanted it as soon as she saw it at the dealer. We were fortunate in that the dealer had one on the way that my wife liked. We had to wait about 3 weeks for it. I like it, but I am not sure it is worth $1200. Does anyone know if the windshield is the same as a non-HUD car? I am just wondering if it takes a special windshield for the display to show up on.

It should be the same windsheild. My car without HUD can clearly see the reflection of top of dashboard. Since HUD can also adjust the brightness and angles/heights, this windshield should do the works.

The all-new RX is now available with a Heads-Up Display (HUD) utilizing white readouts. High-intensity LEDs project high-contrast white figures onto the windshield, which are easier to read – and easier on the eyes – than the typical green-colored readouts. The HUD offers displays for speed, navigation, and audio. A wedge-shaped windshield interlayer for the HUD projection area eliminates the distracting printed grid pattern seen on some other vehicles equipped with HUDs.

If they do coat the interlayer of the windshield in that particular area with the special materials, this makes sense.

Thanks for your research.

This is why I upgraded my insurance the day I got traded my 2004 for a 2010 to 0 deductible glass coverage. It is about an extra 100 bucks a year, however I heard the windshield was extremely expensive due to this inner layer on the HUD (haven't found a glass company quoting it yet).

Plus... I ended up with a small crack in my windshield within 3 days of owning the car

Rocks from Rocky Mountain!? Maybe u also need to consider to put the coating or film or clearbra on the windshield, which will add the additional protection on it.

You can get the Heads up display but it has to be special ordered if you want less equipment than whats in the Luxury Package unit.

So far, all the HUD-equiped '10RX350 I can find in my areas are with $51K-53K almost-full-loaded or full-loaded pkgs.

Since the dealer was willing to provide the huge discount off the regular model (most popular model here), I decide to take this instead of teh full-loaded one.
