I saw a few pictures and spec from various website regarding the 2010 Caddy SRX x-over. To tell the truth, that vehicle looks very nice. It seems to have great quality, the technology is 'enough', it feels luxurious (a bit more lux than the Lexus RX IMO), and various report said that the 2010 SRX handles better than the Lexus RX. Size wise both are close. I would like to chk out the SRX when it arrives at the show room sometime this year (of course after GM files for BK and re-emerge from it). ANy thought / suggestions guys?

It looks nice, I'll test-drive it once it's available...

Overall first impression
Not exactly parsimonious with fuel, but highly advanced in certain technological aspects, the RX is a vehicle that rightfully sits at the top of its segment. So far few true contenders to its position have emerged, though the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLK are arguably gathering their strength. Having experienced both the RX and the new 2010 Cadillac SRX - though not on the road with the latter, lamentably - within a 10-day period, I’d put the new Caddy crossover at the front of the list of Lexus’ true competitors. Until any challenger proves its merits to be greater than those of the RX, however, it remains the undisputed king.

GM's bankrupt is actually not that important. Their quality has been improving last few years. Once they re-emerge back from BK and about to go much leaner on their product line, I do think GM will be a much much better company. Of course they still carry some 'not so good' design, but looking at the 2010 SRX, the current Escalade, even the 2010 Ford Taurus, I think American auto makers are getting their acts back on track. Yes they've been in ignorance for decades, but I recall in the 50s / 60s when the mustangs / GTX etc..were great vehicles. But then things started to go downhill while the Germans and the Japanese started to take over the lead. Honda used to build what I called 'tin can' vehicles when they first came out but they got very good at improving their design and quality during the late 70s into early 90s. But now Honda's quality has been going down (same w/ Mercedes).
Quality, Design, Service are 3 very important factor w/ $ comes in 4th. I wouldn't mind paying 7-10% difference b/w similiar vehicles as long as I get what I want (and like) since I do tend to keep my vehicles for 10 yrs if not longer. That is also a reason why I don't pay too much attention on the residual / depreciation of the car.
Anyhow, Once GM emerges back from bk then the warranty would be fine. Personally I've never experienced any American Made vehicles. But my Uncle and Aunt have been driving Caddy for so long that I seem to trust the reliability of Caddy more than other domestic brand. I still own a 95 Lexus LS and it's still running ok (well of course not as great as 14yrs ago but it's still running fine) after some 270k miles to date.

The reason it reminds you of a Saturn is that this is a version of the next generation Saturn Vue. Lots of trim differences, but still the same basic platform. I find it interesting that they have gone to the trouble to downsize the 3.6 liter V-6 to 3 liters. This must be the beginning of efforts to meet the 35 mpg requirement.
