So I can tell my local dealer to call Lexus of Greenwich so they can learn how to turn off the chime!

There's no need. Any tech who knows how to use the diagnostic software will be able to turn it off.

Hey I am in Los Angeles too. It a no go. Called three different dealers and they all have said because its a safety issue. That being said, I will not give up. I am sure all I need to do is pull aside a tech to do on my car and slip him a $20.00. Yes it is worth paying 20 to get rid of that annoying sound! Ill update ya if I have any luck and please do the same for those in Los Angeles.

All dealers I called said it couldn't be done but I got to the local dealer and explained what I wanted and they were able to do it. I am in Ann Arbor Michigan. I think they can't admit it over the phone!

I just told them my dog sets it off, when in the passenger seat, and they disabled it no problem.

Can I just stop by the dealer and ask them to do so? Is it a fee for it?

All dealers will do it for free when you first take delivery of the car.
After that, these settings need some, but not much, time for a technician to do, using the special device that they have and you don't. If that's all you want done, most dealerships will charge you something, as you are using technical time and the device.
Some dealerships will make a change or two for you if you are having the car in for some other service and you ask about getting this done at the same time; the charge here will vary from nothing to very little, as the incremental time involved is negligible. This is only one reason why it's nice to get to know the service manager.

They didn't charge me. Was a month or three after I bought the car.

The Lexus dealer in Honolulu, Hawaii admits the chime can be disabled but that they won't disable it because Lexus will (not kidding here) be responsible (and can be sued AND lose) if I get into an accident and was not wearing my seatbelt... specifically because the chime was disabled. Being that there are currently other Lexus models that have the ability to disable their seatbelt chime, not only does that make their comments sound absurd... it clearly makes no sense that such a policy could exist.

Unfortunately, it's the only Lexus dealer on the island... so I obviously can't drive it to another dealer.

Anyone have any idea how I can disable it?

It is the law in every state period. The info is correct. The best advice I can give you is buckle up. If it still chimes when buckled, then Lexus can 'fix' the problem. You'll find this the same in every car currently being manufactured for U S sale.
