I'm getting very close to purchasing a 2010 RX 350 with Navi. The navigations system is on a hard drive unlike the disc system in my current ES 300.
The salesman was not knowledgable enough to explain to me how the updates are done and how much it costs. He only knew that it had to be done by the service department.
Anyone have information on this and know the cost to have it done?
It's a great system compared to the old...which I used to think was super.

According to the Lexus Drivers website, the update is $199.
1. select "vehicle resources"
2. select "navigation maps"
You can see what changes have been made to the navi by clicking on the link (not yet active for the generation 6 upgrade); changes are listed state by state.
Generation 6 available in Oct 09
I called my local dealer a few days ago, and was told that my map (car purchased via special order in April) was current.

So is it possible to override this navigation system at all? I remember when buying my 2007 RX that there was a company that sold software to override it, or someone had developed a system where you could take a previous generation's (5.1?) software and combine it with the 6.0 software. Is anything like this possible with the hard disk system to allow an override?

I don't think there is anyway you can do the override. The override in generation 4 and 5cars past version 5.1 has all been removed except for generation 2/3 which still exist until version 8.1. Recently i bought the generation 2/3 V9.1 and realized the override is removed.
I know there is a website selling somekind of hardware for the override to work but that's another $99 at least. I think the website is coastaletech dot com

No updates... makes no sense there would be one yet.
