Default Demo Question

I came across a 2010 RX 350 AWD, non-navigation, DEMO at a dealer in the color combo that I wanted because they do not have a new one in stock or coming in. The DEMO has 2300 miles. Can anyone tell me how much less I should consider paying for this vs buying a brand new one with no mileage. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

What else does the demo have aside from AWD?

Most dealers will knock off 2 to 3 thousand for a demo. Hardly worth it if you ask me.

I agree with The G Man. In NY you should be able to get a pretty good deal without having to look at the demo. I would try getting pricing from a few places for a non-demo and then, if you can parlay that into a better price on the demo you can make the decision from there. Most likely, an uneducated buyer will end up with $2-$3k off of MSRP for the demo and feel good with that. You should be able to do that on a new one pretty easily (and then some).

If you get a good new price then you can ask what they would do for the demo since it has those miles on it.

I've never had good luck getting a demo for less than what I could get for a brand new vehicle (with our Rx's that is).

Good luck and please keep us posted!

The problem with demo is that most of them do not go thru the proper break in procedure recommanded by Lexus, and you know the dealer will always put in low octane gas to save a few penny. All those abuse by test driving and the short distance on off cycle is very bad for a new car.

Thanks for the helpful responses. The Demo and the new one had nearly the same exact MSRP of approximately $43,650. The dealer in NJ with the DEMO was firm at $38,700 with the 2300 miles on it already, and I found a new one in NY, although out of my area, for a bottom line price of $39,650 with 8 miles on it, so I completed the deal over the phone for the brand new one. I will have it in a few days. I was very surprised that the dealer in NJ with the DEMO would not budge. They claim to be the largest with the most sales, I guess that is why they don't need to negotiate. The smaller, out of the main city area dealers are much more willing to negotiate. Thanks.

Congrats and a good decision on the new instead of the demo. I never could understand people who buy demos to save a couple of thousand dollars.

I don't think it was a loaner because at this dealer, their loaner cars were all numbered on the rear side windows and this was was not.
