So, I got the note today - dealer says the special order RX350 should be here TOMORROW or Wednesday! Then they need to do some prep work, he says.

The bummer - we'll be out of town for the holiday, and I don't think an 800-mile drive is how I want to break it in.

So I think we'll use the current plan for the Thursday-Saturday, then come home Sunday morning, and pick it up then.

This means I won't be rushed, which is important to me.

Bonus: we won't show up to a family holiday in an expensive new car while DH's brother is moping about his current financial implosion.

Thanks, Anita! I think you made it happen by asking in Hokie's thread.

Sandi, Probable soon-to-be-owner of a:

2010 RX350, AWD
Matador Red Mica, Black Leather Interior
Premium Package only - no Nav
Tow Package
Sport Package
Backup Camera

Sandi, great news!!! It did happen by Thanksgiving just like you said. Now you can relax and enjoy your trip knowing what you'll come home to. Take lots of pictures.

congrats--I say take it on the trip!

(just do not go 85)

Prep takes but 2 hours--mine came in on a Thursday around noon (I stopped by dealer in the AM and it was not there yet) and I took delivery at 6:30 PM.

Yes Sandi, that is great news indeed. But as Hal just suggested, I really think that you can take it on a long trip. As long as you don't push it much above 70 and varying the speed at times, everything will be fine. Just a thought. But in any case, you have something wonderful to look forward to. BTW, I totally agree with you and Anita that custom ordering is the way to go. I would not have it any other way.

The break-in isn't the only issue - see my other note re: my brother-in-law's financials right now. It would NOT be a harmonious holiday if we showed up in the new car.

Last time we saw him, he had a temper tantrum because I got my husband a watch for his birthday; BIL whined that we were flaunting our wealth, and his life is hard, and he doesn't have any money, and his marriage is over, and we just sit around on our *sses while the dollars roll in...( insert eyeroll here )

Gee, think I'll postpone that experience until Christmas.

Under those circumstances Sandi, you are definitely approaching this the right way.

LOL! Nice idea, but I intend to sell my 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser myself, and replenish my savings account. He's not someone I can see just giving a $23K car.
