Default Extended warranty; to buy or not to buy?

What do you guys and gals think about the extended warranty from Lexus? Is it worth it? If yes where is the best place to buy it?

No way. It's a rip off. You should only consider buying after 3 or 4 years when you decide wether or not you think you're gonna keep the car longer.

I agree with waiting because you have until the end of your normal warranty period to purchase an extended warranty...but having had extended "OM" warranties, not third party warranties on other vehicles, for me at least, they have more than payed for themselves by the thousands,

I suggest you shop around, an extended Lexus warranty can be had from any dealer, so researching a little to get the most competitive price is well worth it and will save you many hundreds of dollars.

Here is one place to start and a quote for a 2010 Lexus 450h that I just got (hundreds and hundreds off from what my dealer quoted me!)

Here is all the basic info and quote:

"I am currently offering the Lexus Platinum Program for 7 yrs / 100,000
miles w/ $0 deductible for $2155.00 on the RX450h, which is by far the
most popular plan choice.

Most of the details on the Platinum plans can be found directly at the
Lexus website at the following link, including all the various terms and
options available, just let me know if you would like a quote on a different
plan.

Here are the purchase instructions if / when you decide to purchase.

I would need you to mail me an original signed letter indicating the exact
current mileage on your vehicle, and a copy of your current registration.(If
you are in a state where you don't get your state registration right away, I
can also use a copy of the bill of sale, purchase contract, or some other
official document which shows the owners name and address, along with the
vehicles VIN)

Sorry, I know its a little inconvenient, but its the only way we could come
up to cover ourselves on the mileage and VIN verification. After I receive
your letter, I can call you for credit card info, if that's how you choose
to pay, or you can include a check, money order, or the credit card info
with it. Also, make sure that the registration copy is legible (I have
gotten a couple of them recently that I couldn't read or had part of the VIN
chopped off on the copy)."

I have had extended warranties on both of my RXs. They have paid for themselves on repairs that occurred outside of standard warranty. IMO it's a small investment for peace of mind if you keep the car that long. I plan on getting one on my 450h.

Kooser, thanks for the info. I know I saw it before in another thread but you saved me the search. I'll give Troy a call before my RX comes in.

I paid CA$2.2k for 6yr/120k km which includes free servicing at 16k, 24k, 32k, 40k kilometres and summer tire insurance plus whatever else (the std stuff I guess). They told me that if I purchased the extended insurance at a later date, it would cost slighty more each year.

i'd expect warranty prices to increase slightly each year just like everything else does

i wouldn't buy 1 before original warranty is on verge on expiration unless it came w/ a money back guarantee

what happens when a drunken fool plows your rx in to worthlessness

maybe that's already standard policy w/ extended warranties, i haven't researched them yet

Lexus parts are generally are reliable, and most people don't think they'll need to pay extra for extended contract. In the perfect world, that is true, but we all know Lexus vehicles aren't built by God, therefore they are not "perfect" - an extended contract is a good insurance to have for a piece of mind to cover expensive components in your Lexus just in case they do fail.

Just like a car or home insurance, you never know when ***** happens. Are you in good hands? lmao
