Our 2010 models are an entire new engine family. The overhead cams are no longer belt driven but internally driven by cam chains. Hence the different sounds especially when cold. A side benefit will be less maintenance. No expensive timing belt change

I did not know that and thats good to know. I asked the Lexus dealership parts store for the shop manuals for 2010 but they dont have it yet.

If you mean hypereutectic piston as in aluminum piston, then yes, the RX have been using those for a while. There are a few owners who have the 3.5L 2GR-FE that has the same complain as you, cold engine noise until it warms up. That usually means its material expansion difference in the aluminum pistons and cast iron liners. As to why some owners do not have this problem, I think it has to do with built tolerance.
