Default Usefulness of mpg display

Hello '10 RX Owners,

I usually hang out in the 1st gen board. Recently had the opportunity to drive a '10 RX when I had dealer service for our 2000 rx. Overall impression was very favorable. However, how useful is the mpg display in the center of the dash? The display scale was from 0 to 90 in increments of 30. Any mpg achieved over 30 seemed to be accomplished only when coasting. Wouldn't it have been smarter to show the scale from say 0 to 40 so you could actually distinguish differences in mpg in the 10 to 30 range? Am I missing something here?

Also, to obtain the highest mpgs, is the goal to drive by having the green ECO light on most of the time?

BTW - the loaner did have the rattle in the rear cargo area.

I agree the display scale should have been better. How about actually displaying a number instead of a sliding scale. I do find that with all the reminders and displays regarding fuel economy, I do make an effort to drive more efficiently. I don't have any rattles. Must be a hit or miss. All in all, I love my RX.

I personally don't mind that its not very accurate. Its the least depressing thing to look at. Ignorance is bliss.

I used to drive a 2006 RX 400h...with the RX 350 my average mpg dropped more than I thought it would. With the 400h I averaged 25.4...now with the 350 I average 18.1. I do a lot of highway and city driving; in one year I average around 28k miles.

The other available screens show:

1) Total Average (hate seeing 18.1 and reminding me of that fact...)
2) Average after fueling (not bad to look at if you refuel and jump on the highway since you can get 20 mpg+ for a while...if city driving it drops below 18 so it can get depressing to look at)
3) Cruising Range Remaining (the fact is that I've never seen it go above 350...and it drops fast and never really seems to go up. also very depressing to look at...half a tank of gas left and less than 125 miles cruising range left)
4) Eco mode (this is just stupid to look at)

So in short I like the inaccuracy of the sliding bar. =)

Re the ECO light, theres no way you can keep it on the entire time. You really lose mpg when you start from a dead stop. I mean you can keep it on during initial acceleration, but the person behind you will probably be honking their horn and cursing you out from driving really really slow. Highway driving its pretty easy to keep the ECO light on.

The rattle could be from the privacy shade by the rear cargo window. If its not installed correctly (ie the 2 hooks in the middle) it will rattle.

The similar mpg display is quite common in many cars, for example, BMW has the mpg scale from 12-50, and you will see that pointer is busily moving back and forth, you even cannot "disable" it. But I do agree that "90" is kind of overkill.

As for the green ECO light, I know many of ppl dislike it; but to me, it's useful. At least it reminds me that I need to drive gentle and moderate.

In Hybrid Snow Mode the ECO light never goes on, and yes,
the mileage goes down.

Default Why does the ECO light go out with cruise control?

I don't understand why the ECO light goes out when you put the cruise control on.

I checked yesterday, on my RX450h the ECO stays on in cruise. What speed are you driving?

I have a 2010 RX 350 and the ECO screen goes away when ever I activate the cruise control. I usually only use it when I am going over 60mph.

Default ECO Light

I turned it off using the owners manual to turn it off. Very distracting and takes your eys off the road. Don't need it, waste of technology. In the old days, drive like you have a raw egg between your shoe and the pedal.
