RXSF, Thanks for clearing that up for us. You don't have to own a dog to know they can bite. There are plenty of people who don't own an RX that know more about them than some owners.
Now can you tell us how the power steering is effected in the same scenario? Isn't it electronic too?

well whether or not you shift to neutral shouldnt affect the steering. If you hold down for three seconds the start/stop function to turn off the engine, you will enter ACC mode and you will lose power steering but you will be able to continue to steer as long as the car is moving.

Of course, all this is advice you probably arent going to need.

Yes, I hope none of us ever need to worry about this. So in ACC mode is the RX going to steer like a regular car when shut off,,,hard to turn?

The heart of the matter is that there is unintentional acceleration of the car. And todate Toyota does not know what is causing it. That's not a good enough answer. The problem has to be pinpointed and fix. No excuse is acceptable.

it will be relatively easy to turn if you are going faster than 20mph. when you are crawling, it will be relatively hard to turn, but still managable.

fact of the matter is that there are thousands and thousands of complaints for unintended acceleration for every manufacturer. Based on the volume of cars that toyota sells, its proportion of complaints is on part with Ford and GM. Nobody knows about the ghosts and glitches in the electronic systems, we can only prepare for it when it happens.

Lexus already has the brake over ride system and they retrofitted it to my 2007 ES350 by reprogramming the ECU. Go see this post.

I only can remember Audi. Don't remember if they ever found the problem there or was the explanation of drivers hitting the gas pedal instead of the brake accepted. You said thousands and thousands of complaint on other cars? Which cars?
