tonneau cover rattle solution?
I did some searching, and it seems the only way to eliminate the rattle from the rear tonneau cover is to remove it completely? I use mine all the time, so I don't want to remove it, but the flap seems to make noise over most bumps. Has anyone found a way to eliminate the sounds that it makes over bumps? Thanks!

yes the same unit if that is what it takes let the dealer look at it yes this is a new unit but they have seen the same basic set up now from the 2004 330's right up to this new one and yours is not the only one that has made noise trust them to fix it what you got to lose a little bit of time?

I know this is an old thread. But, if someone sees this and it helps--great
I put up with a rattle in rear area of RX300 for many years. Sounded 100% like the tonneau cover. Thought it was temp related. Got continuos lately and started to research. Had son inside car and put it in drive with foot on brake as it rattled more when in gear since more vibration. Opened rear hatch but immediately realized it was the end of bolts on lower part of license plate vibrating against car. Put some self stick spacers with some super glue on back of them and placed on rear hatch behind end of bolts for a cushion. Noise gone.
Very weird, but it was my issue and may not effect anyone else. But, whi knows--

Appreciate your post.
FWIW, your scenario is somewhat similar to me after taking delivery of my new 2013 and believing I had a rattle with my glove compartment door. After a month trying to isolate the problem, asking my brother to double chck me as the passenger, and even taking my own solo test drive around the dealers local streets before checking in for my appointment to recreate the problem -- while I was sipping my cappuccino in the waiting area watching CNN on some massive HDTV from a comfy chair, the service technician tracked me down and asked me to take him for a test drive. After the first occurrence, he very politely suggested I remove the quarters I had put in the change holder under the center console, and the rattle was gone. Made me feel like an idiot, and I apologized multiple times, but he said it was why they were there and he was glad to help. He went on to say he knew I'd asked for my RX to not be washed, but he would be happy to take care of it. (Of course I said, "no thanks", as no one washes my rides but me.) My SA was the same way, and the whole experience was no charge. I couldn't have asked for a better way for Lexus or my dealer to have handled my complaint. It's exactly the reason I love Lexus service and will return the next time -- in or out of warranty.

The cover on the third generation is different from the older models. Mine was rattling but it turned out it was some bracket that was loose. The dealer fixed it. I use mine all the time so removing it was not an option.

I sound proofed all the contact points on the unit. I have six cotton towels that match my Parchment interior. I put a couple of them over the retracted cover. The weight of the folded towels secures and isolates the cover. It is not a source of sound in my RX.

I found that it rattles when the cover is open. Not because of the bracket itself but the cover just moving up and down when its open. When closed, no rattles.

The only time my tonneau cover has been a source of a rattle in my 2006 or my 2013 is when I don't click it in all the way. I keep it installed in my truck nearly all the time, make regular use of it, and would be disappointed if it was not available (...and yes, I still miss the connecting flaps to the back seat that were eliminated in the 2013s).
