Our 550i's iDrive was replaced so many times that the car was legally a lemon. And worse, everything went through the iDrive, so when the sensors would act up each month, the nav was blocked with warning messages. But, even when it was working, it was prehistoric compared to the RX nav. The graphics are not even close, and the BMW was very choosy with street names where you had to choose between several versions of the same street name (N, W, S, E, Avenue, Blvd., etc.). But, the Lexus is very annoying the way certain things grey out when moving, and certain things don't.

The problem is the route it wants me to take. The other day I was driving to Toronto on a freeway. Half way there I stopped and entered into the Navi system the address that I wanted to reach. Each of the three routes wanted me to leave the freeway and take a two lane busy highway through numerous small towns that would have added an hour to my trip. The following day, while in Toronto, I cleared all previous destinations and entered a specific Toronto address. The route it tried to have me take would have taken me miles out of my way. Fortunately, I know Toronto well and turned the Navi off. I just don't trust the @#$%%% Navi system any more.

are you sure in the route preference, you didn't have avoid freeways checked? happened to me ones before (no idea how that was turned on), and when i looked up a route it took me some weird route and never touched any freeways

I am absolutely certain that it was not set to avoid freeways. Even if I was incorrect in this, it would not account for my problem on day 2 when I was in the middle of the City of Toronto and not near a freeway. Compared to my extensive experience with the Audi navigation system, it simply does not measure up. Even though I only have about 1500 miles on my 2010 RX450h, I am starting to develop an active dislike for the vehicle.

i don't know enough about ON and such to say much, but it sounds to me something is terribly wrong about your navigation. i have been using lexus nav for years and also tried bmw/mb/audi/infiniti/acura navs. some might have different routes, but at least shouldn't guide you to a different location

I love the joystick in RX. Very easy to operate. iDrive takes awhile getting used to, but overall I found it intuitive (I guess I am one of the few) in the rented 3 series 320D wagon a couple of years ago.

Toyota's NAV system is average. I think Honda's NAV system is much better and more accurate. At least from my past experience 4 years in Acura MDX 05 and 1 year in Lexus RX 10.
