Default Accelerator got stuck on floormat

Hello, last week on my 2010 Lexus RX 350 - when passing on a two lane road my accelerator got stuck on the grove of the all-weather floormat. Had to slam on brakes, then put car in neutral to get it to stopped. Pretty scary event.....everyone just look at check the position of your mats.

Need to be sure they are secured on the hooks near the front of your seat. If you do, there is not a problem. Glad you're OK.

You should always check your mats for this very reason, at least on the drivers side, after you get your car washed or it's returned from the dealer.

Good job on not panicking.
Hope all drivers are like you and have enough sense on what to do.

That's a reason why Lexus stop selling rubber mats, too much problems. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Gotta make sure those mats are in the right place, especially after a car wash, etc

Maybe it's time for Toyota to change their throttle pedal from the hanging pedal to the bottom-fixed pedal!?

I never understood the differences between the two and why toyota would go for the top mounted pedal versus the floor. all of these headaches could just be solved by the latter

Lots of other manufacturers have top mounted pedals. The mat fixing system on Toyota/Lexus vehicles is pretty good in my experience. In 11 years I've never had a problem.

On the other hand, I was nearly done in by the floor mats in a Skoda in February that I hired!

I have the McNeil Weather Tech mats. There is no way they could get caught in the gas petal travel. BTW the rear mat(s) cover across the full back.. Very well designed. I did notice our BMW 5 mats are also made by Weather Tech just have the BMW logo on them.

Oh, crap, is that the reason I don't see the ones I bought online anymore? I would think regular mats also slide when not hooked

side note :I went to the carwash last week and noticed today the workers took out the mats and diod not hook them back on....

Yea, I was lucky though. I am a experienced driver and am quick to act....my fiance, on the other hand...she would have had major problems. And it helped that we were on a straight away!!!
