15k service, is it worth it? + rant
Now that the oil change interval is 10kmiles is it worth it to go in for the 15k service or just wait till the 20k service. I just had my 10k completed and discovered a passenger seat rattle. If it weren't for all the electronics under the seat I would pull it out and fix it myself. I'm debating whether to fix it at 15k or the 20k service. Lexus quality is starting to disappoint me. Every time I bring the rx in I have to fix something under warranty. I guess at least I get a free loaner.

I just returned from Lexus service after having done 15k mile service and thought I'd share this.
First, a side story. A couple of months ago my wife backed up into another car and put a nice dent on a front passenger door. This week, I finally had a chance to take it to a local body shop, which did a great job at fixing and repainting the door (they actually had to repaint the rear door, too, to blend in - at no extra cost). I cannot tell the difference, in both color and finish. Very happy.
Next, I made an appointment for 15k service. I got a quote over the phone for 189.99 for 'Lexus recommended' service, and a $269.99 - for 'Dealer recommended' (a much longer list of checks, replacements, etc). When I got to the dealership, the desk quoted $299.99. I agreed, but said I was not happy with different quotes given, and that the next time I would need to speak with SM. Got 2010 RX 350 same model as a service loaner.
Long story short, when I picked up the car, the bill was for $269.99. Added a 10% off coupon, minus the cost of 10k ($190), which I paid for and which was supposed to be complimentary, and used my Lexus Visa's card points, for the final cost of $0.
I am a happy camper for this round (and will most likely come back for next service - it's a 30-mile drive vs local dealership). Also, I woud definetely recommend getting (or using) a Lexus Visa card.

I agree, for most points, including they changed the oil filter, which should be changed every 10k on synthetic (so, technically could have waited for 20k), but for $0 out of pocket, I won't argue.

I typically do not pay attention to the points most major CCs offer, including air miles, but in this case I am a believer. Taking into account that I got reimbursed for 10K service AFTER I paid for it, and full amount got deducted from this bill, I paid only $63 for 15K service, the rest was covered by Visa points.
And this is not my primary card, so I spend only a modest amount on it. The points do work. Good deal, Lexus.

wow $300 for them to put the rx on the rack, rotate the tires and then just look at it for the next 1.5 hours. at 12k miles i havent paid for a service yet. ive built a raport with one of the service techs. ill ask if there is anything they do that i cant do myself that i should go in.
