RE: the problem of Ipod's disconnecting from USB connection I may have stumbled on a fix.
Whenever my Ipod would disconnect from the USB and want to connect through Bluetooth, it was as annoying for me as everyone else. In my mind, the only real use for connecting through Bluetooth was if someone in the back seat wanted to play DJ. Otherwise I'd rather use the 'direct' USB connection and have complete control of the music.
So on a whim, I went back into the settings one day while waiting for someone in a parking lot. I disconnected the 'Bluetooth' setting for the Ipod and just left the USB. It's been three days now and so far so good.
Of course the annoying issues of not being able to scan through the song list still exist, but they are just annoying while I'm at least still listening to my music
.
Someone else try it and see if it works for them, my guess is it will.

That brings up an interesting question for the iPhone then. Is it possible that there's a conflict between Bluetooth and USB? Hypothetically, if Bluetooth is disabled, will the iPhone then work properly, with all the attendant menu and play issues eliminated? I've been meaning to ask my daughters to plug their iPhones via USB to see if it would work. I will be seeing them tonight, so I will report back here with the results...
