Default Tachometer drops during coasting?

Does the engine go to only four cylinders when coasting? I am seeing the tach drop 500-700 rpms during coasting conditions and the tach goes back to normal when I have to hit the accelerator. Is this normal?
FYI, I feel no hesitation or anything just smooth acceleration when this happens. I hope this is normal.

I don't believe we have cylinder deactivation on the rx. The rpm drop is normal.

nope, it is just upshifting to the maximum gear it can to improve efficiency, probably 6th if you are above 30mph

I second that - you might notice similar when getting up to speed, right at the end the rpms drop when the torque converter locks
