Default Do the Garage Door Opener buttons light up?

We just got our new 2010 RX350 with option package B (Comfort Pkg., 12 speaker radio, 19" wheels, Nav, Parking Assist, Premium Pkg., Tow Prep Pkg., Wood Steering Wheel & Shift **** & Accessory Pkg.) and, while we love the vehicle it suffers from some odd lapses in common sense like no elapsed time tracking, no radio display that's always on, a vexing lack of per driver customization options, etc. My reason in posting this thread, however, has to do with the HomeLink buttons in the overhead console, should they be illuminated at night? Ours are not and I'm trying to figure out if this is a fault, or if it's just another in a growing list of small but annoying design flaws. Thanks for any feedback that you folks can provide.

It's an annoying design flaw that has been mentioned numerous times in several threads. Many hope it will be addressed in the 2011. If so, perhaps those of us with 2010s might be able to get the lights retrofitted, but I wouldn't want to place any money on that possibility.

The ES has this same oversight. It's been that way since the current gen came out in April '06. I'm not optimisitic things will change any time soon. Very un-Lexus like.

The 2010 GX also has this same flaw. I hope they fix it.

You can have the radio display at all times, you have to go into the personalized settings and change that setting. General settings/ auto screen change, turn it off. At anytime you can bring the map up by hitting the map button on the controller.

Sorry, I can't help you with the light.

That's what I was thinking but the SOS button is a little further away from the others. And it can't be easily mistaken especially with that piercing light

Re the customization, crack open the owner's manual to page 660 or a few pages after that to see what you can/cannot do. Quite a bit can be programmed yourself through the nav screen/folder button on the steering wheel. Even the ones programmable only by the dealer were not 'standard' and in fact were to my liking. Take your time and play with it.

Congrats!

The Homelink buttons on my LS were lit up, but I don't miss them. The area in front of the buttons on the RX is deeply grooved, so I use that as a feeler at night. Then again, I'm not too hard to please... This car has so many positives going for it, they overshadow these minor inconveniences.

Its a huge oversight. However, I dont know if you can even call it an oversight as the second gen RX has them lighted up. And if the ES and GX have the same issue, then it is simple cost cutting. How much would a few bulbs have added to the base price?

Maybe not much on one unit, but multiply that by 100K, and then you've got the accountants sniffing around in the first year of production. They might show up later on, as these things often do.

Hopefully, some company will make an easy-to-install LED kit for those of us who aren't the most mechanically inclined.
