Default Extended Warranty on 2010 RX 350

I will be buying an RX 350 this week, and will need an extended warranty of 6 years/125,000 miles. The list price for $0 deductible is $2500. Has anyone obtained a cheaper price? I was thinking of financing it if I can get a better deal from the dealer who will obviously quote list price. Alternatively, I suppose I can wait a few years and purchase it then. Thoughts?

Troy Dietrich is in MA and you can call him and give him your info and credit card.In a few days you'll get the dealer paperwork of the transaction and within two weeks, the warranty book from Toyota.
I've done it twice and it's easy. Also no sales tax if you're out of MA.
I don't know about a 6/125 but there's a 6/75,7/100,8/75 and 8/100 Lexus Platimum warranties. The RX 7/100 was $1730 and the 8/100 was $2075.I don't know about the cost now but they may be the same or very close.
No rush to buy a extended warranty,You have 3 years 364 days and 49999miles to buy a warranty. It's always better to buy a warranty late because the warranty is prorated after 30 days after purchase even if you're under the 4/50.If you sell, total or the car is stolen, you'll get a smaller amount back.

I contacted Troy and Toby down in Shreveport for this same thing last week. Brand new 2010 RX350. These are the prices they gave me, just to give you an idea.

Toby... 5 year 100000 = $1105.00
6 year 100000 = $1275.00
7 year 100000 = $1615.00

Troy... 7 year 100k $1730
7 year 75k $1370

Both quoted Lexus Platinum, $0 deduct.

Toby and Troy seem to be the best just by talking to others on this board.

Default Extended Warranty on 2010 RX 350

I contacted a Lexus dealership in Shreveport, LA and received a quote of $1475 for 6 year 125000, 0 deductible. I then contacted the dealership in Dallas where I bought my vehicle and asked if they could match the price even though the lowest price originally quoted was around $2200. Amazingly they were williing to match the price. If you let your dealership know you can find a genuine lexus warranty at a much lower price they will probably try to earn your business.

Make sure the dealer doesn't charge you the sales tax on that $1425.

Why do you say "need" in your first sentence?
Many advisers suggest that the costs of such covered long term repairs are better self-insured. I would think this would be true especially with a four year waiting period before the coverage even kicks in. During that time, you can save up a nice fund for such repairs (starting with the premium), and if it turns out that no such repairs are necessary, which frequently happens, your next car just got commensurately cheaper.

Maybe not a good purchase with the Toyota products of 10 years ago but well worth it today.Especially at those discounted costs.
Toyota quality has dropped like a rock.
Buying a extended warranty at the end of the basic warranty rather than early is the smarter thing to do when buying.

you're giving back everything you "negotiated" off of the sticker price with extended warranties. pure profit center. good luck.

It's worth the 3% premium for piece of mind with CEO Mr Akio Toyoda stating Toyota quality has gone down.
Besides,I negotiated around $5K off the sticker.

Lexus still ranks in the top 3 in terms of problems per 100 vehicles. Plus we upgrade every 4-5 years anyway. I'll take my chances.

Three percent?? That's a lot. I thought we bought Lexus for the peace of mind. I have had 3 Lexus cars since the early 80s, and have never had any significant problems with any of them. I would not buy a car that I could not afford to repair.
For my three cars, extended warranties would have cost me $5,000 or $6,000; actual repairs which would have been covered set me back maybe a thousand over that period of time. I just don't see the wisdom of paying in advance for something that I may not (and probably will not) take delivery of.
My suggestion remains to hold the cash in reserve, because the odds are great that you will not need to spend it on repairs, keeping in mind that even if you have repairs equal to the cost of the warranty itself, you have not gained anything.

4-5 years,I wouldn't buy one either. That's why I'll wait till the end of warranty so I know if I'm going to keep the vehicle.
Top three is nice but Lexus was #1.

3% is a bargain.

It's not a question of being able to afford a repair.If you can't afford a repair,you shouldn't buy a Lexus.
It's a question of only one thing going wrong and you're even with the cost of the warranty.Plenty of accessories on a Lexus.
However, a warranty works if you buy it at a deep discount and not what the dealer quotes of numbers like $2500.
Piece of mind works for many.Especially with a vehicle that has $110 per hour labor and fairly expensive parts.
Add in newer Lexus vehicles are not built as well as your Lexus vehicles in the '80s and even '90s.
Read the forums and do a search and read where the grandson of the founder of Toyota,Akio Toyoda, says the company has dropped in quality and he is determined to bring that past quality back.
I've bought Toyota products since the mid 70's and see the difference but still buy Toyota because I haven't been really burnt yet.
