keyless entry glitch?

Background: I was standing about 3 feet from the car which was locked, my boy grabbed the front passenger side handle and it unlocked, just as if I did it except I have the key in MY pocket. This scenario is repeated for front driver's door as well as rear hatch...the key is in my pocket, and I don't have to be touching the car or my son. Just being within a few feet is all that's needed. I find that a little odd and was wondering if this is the same for everyone else, and what y'alls opinion is about this feature.

Isn't this normal? Your key fob is in the range. (Actually it's a little far than the official range.) As long as your car's 3 entry points can detect your keys, anyone can open them. I believe you can open it too if the key fob is placed on the ground. Your key fob doesn't use your body as the bridge to transmit the signals to the car. ![Smilie](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Yep, that's the way it works. Comes in handy for situations like in which I'm tied up trying to load something in the back hatch and one of the family wants to enter the passenger seat.

Duh! I interpreted the manual differently. I thought one would have to actually be holding the key. Of course, only did a very cursory look at that manual as a typical engineer.
