Default RX sunroof will not close!

Brand new 2010 RX350

When trying to close the sunroof using the auto close feature, the sunroof gets 3/4 closed and opens back up like there is an obstruction. I can continuously push the close button quickly so not to engage the auto close and can get it closed. But each time I try to auto close it, it opens back up.

Checked for obstructions...none.
Pushed down wind deflector while it was closing...didn't work.

Other than taking it to the dealer, 1 hour away, any reset features that could help me before I make the journey?

Thanks for the help.

Sounds like it needs to be initialized. Use the reset procedure for the windows/moonroof as if battery got disconnected in the manual.

I have looked everywhere for a window or sunroof initialization, I found nothing. I did find the power back door initialization.

I can't remember if it was the 2010 or 05 RX that I did it to, or both. I've done it a couple times after disconnecting the battery for various reasons...something about running the windows and moonroof all the way one way, then the other, then using the one touch feature. Sorry, don't have 2010RX with me right now to check. Perhaps others may remember better. I'm hoping it wasn't just the 05 RX...my memory ain't what it use to be.

You should give the dealer a call, have them to pick up your car and drop off a loaner for you, while your car is getting fixed. As far as I know, before we buy cars from Lexus, they have promised us, as long as our cars are under warranty, free of charge for pickup and a free loaner. Coz our dealer is 3 hours away, I am not going spend my time to drive 3 hours to get it fixed, and when I buy these 2 lexus from them, I had them both delivered at my work, so give them a call.
Once again, I dare to say, Lexus service is much better than M-benz.

I actually had to drive by the dealer to go to one of my offices and I dropped it off, they gave me a loaner RX.

They re-initialized the roof and now it seems to work ok.

I don't know what they did, but it's fixed. I forgot to ask him the process of how to do this if it does it again. The SA was pretty pissed that whoever I talked to didn't get a tech to try to re-initialize it over the phone.

Anyways, it's fixed and they washed it.

One funny thing, all the SA's had to come see the mud guards I got from Sewell Lexus in Texas. They had never seen them and now they want to put them on all of their loaners. I have to say, they look good, not big and bulky or obtrusive. They are the perfect size to help protect the sides of the car from debris.

Pretty good deal, register on their site as a member of Club Lexus and they are only like 60 bucks, otherwise 80+

Thanks for the tips, I was thinking to buy and install the mug guards to the RX , is it hard to install?? Did you do it yourself? Are they OEM? Thanks.

They are OEM Lexus parts, fit like a glove. They are extremely easy to install, on a scale of 1 to 10, they are a 1. I put them on in about 10 minutes.
