lexuchar, I am not absolutely certain and I do not have a 450h but I believe that the service manager you spoke to is incorrect. I believe that there are others on the forum with 2010 450h cars who have had this done. Search the forum and I think that you will find this information.
Anita, didn't you have this done and isn't yours a 2010 450h?

lexuschar, what does you owners manual say? If it can be done it should be indicated in the manual as an option only the dealer can do. If it is not in there, I would say that it can not be done. However, I would be willing to place a few dollars on the fact that it states so in the manual and thus, it should be able to be accomplished. If I am wrong, it would not be the first time I lost a few bucks on a bet.

It is not in the 2010 manual, but it can be done.
In the 2010 manual, nothing is documented on this feature. But In the 2011, there is.
Mine was done around 4/2011, got the car on 12/2010.

Lexus Test Driver
Just a thought here, there was an update to the nav software, and I am not talking about the maps. You might want to see if you need a software update for the system, then they might be able to program the rear door.

No, I don't play soccer!
There was a firmware update for the iPod scroll problem that came out in February 2010 which I had done at the same time as the tail gate. There is a way to check the version. The only other difference may be pre-Lexus Enform/Safety Connect.

just my thoughts
Anyway, back to topic, I must experiment with my 2010, RX-350 Sports Luxury model, door opening settings next time I am back in Australia. It is a Japan built model but logically should have all the same features.
And the comment I really wanted to make is; my opinion is that Lexus, and the dealers really should have a check list that they take an hour, or even two, and go over all the features and settings with new owners before they drive off the lot.
For instance, it was over a year before I accidently discovered the Hill Assist feature; anyone else have late discoveries to share?

Once you have the dealer program the exterior rectangular backdoor button for 1st push to unlock all doors, and 2nd push to power lift the backdoor, do you still have the option of manually lifting up the backdoor after the 1st push (before the 2nd push)?
After dealer re-programming, if the doors are already unlocked, can you still manually open and lift the backdoor if you wish?

I was at Woodhaven Lexus here in WInnipeg, we only have one and told the General Manager who I was talking to about the purchase of my new 2012 450H that the 2010 demo they had the door did not open and the one in the showroom did. He said that they need to set it in the back and are totally aware of it. The 2010's they were not doing so that one got missed. He then phoned the service dept and the next thing I saw was the tech in the lot with his laptop and quick like a bunny it was done.
I told him that when mine arrives I expected it to be already done and he laughed and said "absolutely, they all should be done, we just missed that one I guess"
No excuses, no deflection, just "Yes it can be done and sorry we should have done it before anyone asked. " I hope that this is a reflection of the service I will recieve in the future.
