Default 2010 Buyers Remorse

I just traded a 2007 rx400h 2 Wheel drive with 78,000 miles for a new 2010 rx450h. I'm having the worst buyers remorse I have ever experienced. My 07 routinely got 23-26 mph with normal driving like a maniac. The new 2010 is lucky to get 22 and I'm driving like a little old lady. I was promised 3-4 mph more with the new one but it is actually worse. I'm thinking the 07 was so much better because of the 2wd. Also disappointed with the lack of 12volt plugs near the dash. The 2010 is a non Nav car because I like garmin better, but I feel i"m losing a lot of other Tech features with the non nav version. Also, my 07 is faster and smoother than the 2010. Is this also because it was 2wd? Any thoughts?

Interesting. The 2010 has more horsepower and is rated better by the EPA. Owning my 11 RXh AWD for a month, I am getting around 27 according to the computer. of course, mpg increases after break in period. also you are supposed to suffer around 2mpg due to the awd, but you should be getting way higher than 22.

A couple of factors is the cold weather, perhaps you are driving too short of distances where the engine does not have time to warm up before you get to your destination. Id give it a few more weeks and see where everything averages out.

as for the tech...yes you do lose a lot without the nav but that isnt really Lexus' fault.

No, I understand that. I'm just so disgusted with the mileage, I'm thinking of returning the car tomorow. I picked it up on Monday and wondering what kind of attitude I'm going to get at the dealership. I honstly think something is wrong with this car.

I would predict that the dealer will say that there is likely nothing wrong with the vehicle and that using less than one tank of gas in the wintertime is not a definitive test for MPG for a new vehicle. Not liking it for other reasons seems to be a better reason to return it if they will take it back. Let us know what happens.

You are in New York has it been very cold there? This will hurt the MPG somewhat. As for the rest that is what you wanted right? How many miles are on your car? Just got our special ordered 2 weeks ago and in love with what this car can do. The MSRP was just under 63k on our car lots of things to use in it. Now the dealership service department here sucks and will not let them touch the car again, but that is something I will have to deal with a trip to New Orleans 300 miles round trip. Long post if you are not happy with it get out now and look for something else and let us know what you found to take its place.

I've only driven the car about 100 miles, but as you know...after owning a hybrid for 3 years, you can tell almost instantly how the car is doing on mpg. True, the average temp during that 100 miles was only about 28 degrees f, but hot or cold, my 07 never ever averaged under 23.5 driving very aggressively. This car can't do that driving like my grandmother. I honestly think the 2 wheel drive 07 spoiled me. Man..that car was smooooooth as silk all the way up to 100. Stands to reason...I think there is a lot more turning in a awd vs 2wd.

what parts -- a motor in the back-- it is not AWD as they used to be no drive shaft and for the most part it will be in FWD most of the time. It will take a thousand miles for the new one to break in. So it is up to you keep it or drop it.

Well...after reading all your responses, maybe I am being too winey and impatient on this issue. I remember it taking me a while to get used to my 07 400h....so maybe I should just hang in there and give the car a chance to grow on me. The 07 sure did. I really loved that car.

let your dealer know you are unhappy, but they probably cant and wont do anything. they are not going to say that there is something wrong with the car. The tank of gas in there is probably not premium either, expect worse mpg for that reason alone.

Improvements in mpg begins at 5k miles I think.

I don't drive my wife's 2010 RX, do they also do the high RPMs until the engine warms up? My GS does this, which I'm sure burns gas and contributes to lower MPG, not to mention a winter blend gasoline. Are you putting 93 octane in it?

Owned a 2010 Rx450h for 14 months & have 11k on it. Consistently averaged 27mpg since day 1.

Do you get the same 27 MPG in both winter and summer driving. I have never had a vehicle get the same MPG in winter as it does in summer weather.

I had an 08 400h AWD and get 2-3 more mpg with my 10 450h AWD. You will definitely get better mpg with a 2wd. Also, if you aren't using eco mode, I think it will be very tricky to finesse the gas pedal to get the best mpg although I know others in this forum are able to do it.
