Default climate control craziness

I will try not to go off on a rant here... and I will to avoid complaining about the really poor ipod control interface (and how even though there is an update that fixes some of it, Lexus cant seem to install it in our car), but here goes a complaint about the AC controls.

It seems that Lexus became a bit too excited about the voice control and remote touch features in this car. Does it bug anyone else that it takes no less than three clicks to turn AC on and off? Same for turning off Dual mode...

At first I thought it was really neat that I could click voice and say "It's cold in here" and it would warm the temperature up. Its just a novelty though. It takes a great deal more time to do that than to press the temp button a few times. Not to mention the recognition is pretty poor anyhow.

But here is a real problem, and I am curious if anyone has seen it as well... I

The RX is my wife's (I drive a G37 Conv). On the occasion when I need to use her car to carry something large, or on the weekends when we have the nephew and prefer the larger back seat, I drive the Lexus.

I have noticed that I will set the temperature to 72 (my usual temp) and turn Auto on. My wife insists on manually controlling fan speed. However, the issue arises after I set the temp to 72, then we leave to do some shopping or lunch, then when we get back into the car, I restart the car, and Auto is off, the temp is now some random value (84 for example). It makes no sense to me at all. Has this happened to anyone else?

I really hate to say it, but after about 15k miles of this car, I regret trading in our 09 Murano, and am contemplating going back to a 11 Murano LE. My wife loves the "L" on her steering wheel, and the vehicle has nice materials and rides well, but all these little things really frustrate us. Don't even get me started on the black hole that lies in the console. I cant stand trying to plug in my phone to charge.

Agreed, this is not normal. Ours always remembers the temp and settings. (it even remembers the auto recirculate setting, which our IS350 didn't)

what I don't understand is when I put it in auto to 71 the AC lights up. It's that normal?

My IS250 did not do this, but then again it did not have remote touch. I have had this happen quite a few times, but I am not sure it is repeatable "on demand".

I wonder if it has something to do with the keyless entry feature.... but as I recall each time I unlocked it with my own key...

does the keyless entry feature memorize the temp?

Isnt' there some settings in the custimzation to set a starting temperature? I think there is an option to have it start at the last temp or a set temperature. (i could be wrong...)

I just glanced at a non-nav manual real quick. The settings should stay where you left them. And it does matter which key you use, as it will remember different settings for different keys.

Hahah, well if shes trolling me shes doing a great job!

Honestly though I have caught it doing it when driving alone. It does not always do it, and when it does, it is not always the same temp. It really is crazy!

No one else has seen this?

Ours is the remote touch Nav, but I am not sure that would make a difference. I will have to sit down this evening to see if I can duplicate this at will...

Once you press any button to adjust where the air is flowing or the fan speed it takes it out of 'auto'. Just a thought. I don't have any such problem, 'auto' is my favorite feature.

just some random musings.

to turn on dual mode, all you have to do is adjust the temperature for the passenger side and it automatically turns on dual mode, so there is no need to access remote touch.

regarding the problem you are facing do to the car not remembering your settings, that must be an error. See if you can find a pattern and we will see if we can reproduce it. I dont ever use auto though

I'm jumping into to this conversation a bit late, but climate control settings are both remembered where they were and also memorized by key fob. I saw this while searching for something else in the on line manual or going through service bulletins. Don't ask me how this works. I'll try to find it again, if you need a reference.

When the settings go haywire, which fob are you using? Hers or yours (the spare)?

Like MEP said, the way I understand the climate controls, the auto function is turned off when the fan/mode is changed. It should not be affected by changing the temperature though the mode/fan speed may change. AC is always on in auto. AC on is the default for the front windshield defroster but can be turned off through the settings. I think my climate control buttons are a little different because of ML. You can probably do more than me.

There is a $12 power cable available from Sewell for your black hole problem. I also posted a TSB regarding this issue but my dealer has yet to get the fix (the aforementioned cable). I don't really use the charger so I haven't bothered.

yes you're right. They are getting too excited about the remote touch (it's like they think it's too cool). Don't get me wrong, i love the remote touch using most nav and audio functions. But for ac """""just give me my f%#$%^ button!!!!"""""""" the car is designed for human use, give me the best ergonomics and least headache. Please don't go backwards lexus!

To turn "off" Dual mode is not so simple though. You have to navigate through the menus.
