can someone tell me how to replace battery in the key fob. I have looked at it and cannot see how to open it. I am sure the service dept would love to do it for me.
A year and half or so is usually what I get out of a fob battery with the smart key feature in my other car. Everytime you walk close to the car, your fob communicates with the car. That means it will drain the fob battery faster than a car without the smart key feature.
Factory remote start will use more battery power.
I'm going to change mine every year.

My jeep grand cherokee key fob has the original battery for the last 10 years. Both of them.
I'm sure your Jeep GC didn't have a smart key or the keyless push button start - these are battery eaters. Both my 2IS & 3GS fob batteries had to be replaced at apprx 18 mos - small price to pay for the privilege of never having to take the fob out of my pocket to lock/unlock the car or start the engine . . .
