Just took a road trip from NYC to Baltimore for the weekend...
The fiancee and I drove down on Friday night (temp was low 20s all the way) and it was a roughly 180 mile drive. I have about 3/4 tank of premium 93 gas before we head out. Once I got there I noticed that i was down to less than 1/4 tank. I checked the average mpg after refueling and it was just over 21. Isnt this horrible? After refueling and after arriving back on saturday night (temp was slighly warmer) i averaged 24 mpg. It is better but still sucks. My car has about 2000 miles on it now. The first time i took a road trip this long i averaged about 25-26mpg but it was back in november and the temps are slightly higher. I dont think i drive like a maniac but as of today, even when coming off a red light to green, i feel the gas engine kick in no matter how lightly i step on the gas. even to get the car to start moving forward i have to step on the gas and the gas engine kicks in. how is it possible to get to moving speeds from a complete stop and not have the gas engine kick in? it does not seem possible. it seems like the only way is to get the car moving from a complete stop, let go of gas, then press gently on it until only the electric motor is being used. This is local streets of course.

RX450h's mileage on the highway is about the same as the Rx350, The RX450h does get better milage in the city than the RX350. 25 MPG is what we get on the highway in our RXh, in the city, maybe 24 MPG if we are lucky, but we take a lot of short trips which kills gas mailage. Our engine turns on everytime when we are moving, I think that is normal. On the Camry and the Prius, they run a lot more in battery mode. Maybe its because the RXh is so much heavier, but just because the engine is running, that doesnt mean it running on engine power alone. Take a look at the power diagram on your screen, when accelarating from a red light, power is coming from the engine and electric motors. We only have 250 miles on it so far, like most cars we own, I am hoping the gas mileage will improve after 5-6 thousand miles.
The mpg on any vehicle depends on driving habits but most, when the accelorator is pampered, get whats listed if not more. Some, like our old GMC Acadia, just can't live up to whats advertised even when pampered.

no, it is for all vehicles. it takes time for the car the break in and then mpg increases.
as for the low mileage, the low temperature shouldnt have made a huge difference because you were driving freeway miles and the engine was probably on constantly. was it completely flat? a nasty headwind makes a huge difference.

Something is strange about your poor mileage. My last gas stop, after a number of cold startups, driving throught slush and ice, hilly roads, and over 100 miles at over 70 mph, I still got more than 27 mpg.

We drove our RX 350 during the holidays from central NJ to Baltimore and back using one tank of gas. That trip's average was over 25 mpg on a regular RX, so your hybrid RX450's mpg is kind of low.

I said wow. i took a trip from Boston to NYC and my RX350 only give 18 average. I didn't even drive more than 75 miles/hour. Poor me

I'm on my 5th. tank of Krogers (shell gas) with 87 octane. I getting average 28/29 mpg. The first two tanks my mileage went to 24/25 on my third tank back to very good mileage. The car computer adjusted and its quiet no difference from the high octane. These cars are not Ferrari's they are Toyota's and run great on regular blend.

I don't think it's even possible to get 18mpg on the highway, unless you were driving a box with a freakin' V8, and crosswinds coming at you. LoL

Question, do you drive it hard other wise? I don't personally drive the car but my younger bro does and I know he is aggressive on the throttle.
The ECU might be adjusting to that style of driving.
