The 3RX Gas Mileage Thread

2013 Rx350 AWD, 4500 miles. Our mileage mix, 75/25 city/hwy is poor - about 18.3 mpg. Highway does just about 24mpg. This on the Michelin tires. We got rid of a Caddy Deville with a 300 horsepower V8 that was a lot smoother accelerating and 19.5 mpg in the same mix driving, so Lexus is step backwards as far as the gas mileage goes. Rest of the car is great.

MY'13 RX-Fsport
First tank with fuel off lexus - avg was 20 mpg (base off computer reading) with 3 adults and 2 kids 60lbs avg in the vehicle. 50/50 local and free way.
Second tank - so far average of 23 mpg with avg of 3 adults - 70/30 fwy/local.
both testing base on socal road, traffic, and weather condition.
btw - Any F-Sport owner using 89 or 91 instead of required 87 fuel? I'm also a 91 fuel guy so want to see if anyone put 91 and got significantly better gas mileage.

Once fully broken in, these cars are capable of 24-25 mpg at 65 MPG if you are gentle with the throttle. Breaking in can take quite a few miles. My guess is it takes somewhere between 15,000 to 20,000 miles to fully break-in, for maximum mpg.

If you do a fairly equal mix of city and highway driving, you're probably in the predicted range. More city driving will give you less, and more hwy driving with cruise at 65-70 will give you more. The RX450h can give you an average of about 10mpg more (30mpg +/-) but only if you drive it over 5 miles after starting cold. But you have the 350. BTW, either model will not give best mileage on short trips under 5 miles no matter how you drive it.

Octane rating will not affect your fuel economy, with today's gasolines. This has been covered numerous times.

I'm not a mechanic but my dealer tech said "it's the mapping in the computer". My 03 was recommended for 87 octane and it ran fine from birth. No issues. My 2010 requires 91 and that's what I'm using now. If I had yours it'd be back to 87.

I dont think were getting more than 315 miles to a tank. Not sure what this is relating to in terms of actual miles per gallon. I'm also thinking that because we live at altitude and during winter, our gas mileage will be worse. Also, I tend to be harder on the gas pedal than my wife when I drive it! We only run 91 octane and car has done around 2700 miles so far...

Running premium gas, 30k miles on odometer, average is 14.1 in the city 19 in the highway, have taken it to the dealer for numerous resets and it improves for one day then goes back to getting the poor mileage, at the end I traded it in for 2012 Mercerdes E350 that has more space in the back and averaging 21 in the city and 28 in the highway, tank full goes to 510 miles.

Bought a 2010 RX450H CPO about a month ago. Only 11,600 miles or thereabouts. Finally got first trip, approx. 85 miles. Mostly highway, 65-70mph. a few miles of local stop/go. Averaged approx. 30.4 on car display, but did not fill up. Has been anywhere 24.5-25.5 mpg local stop/go, various mph up to 50 mph. See alot of comments on better mpg in warmer weather so time will tell. But overall no complaints. Still has original Dunlop tires, and wear more than you'd expect at around 12,500 miles now. May replace before next winter (or sooner ??). Running 92-93 octane only. Not sure if MPG will improve any as weather warms up and/or gas goes to summer formula (as some have written).

I'm happy with the MPG's on my 2012 RX-350-awd. I get average 22 mpg(suburbs). Highway 25-27 mpg ,65-75 mph.
All this on 87 octane.
I try to keep the RPM's low, I don't jack rabbit from lights, and I coast up to the red lights(safely of course).

Graph shows about a two year average. I always burn premium and mostly COSTCO. My tires are and have been the Michelin Lattitudes at 32PSI cold. Most miles are city (probably 60%) and trips of about 8 - 10 miles. ECO is off but I keep a light foot on acceleration and slow down as I see a stop approaching. Graph photo was last Sunday, two days ago.
