I assume the previous post was to me. My driving style on my trip to Orlando and back was 1) fill tank with 87 octane; 2) drive down ramp to Interstate; 3) set cruise control; 4) repeat 1, 2, & 3.

I made basically the same trip some 19 times. Milwaukee, WI to Fort Myers, FL and back. Took interstates all the way I-39 and I-57 down through IL, then I-24 across to TN, and picked up I-75 the rest of the way through GA and FL.

Same routine, gas up and on-ramp to freeway, set cruise to 70- 75 and go till I need to gas up again. My vehicle was loaded with a good 250 pounds of luggage and about 350 pounds of people so figure a good 600 pounds total.

My 2004 RX would get 24.6 - 28.7 MPG measured on that route on 18 round trips.

My 2014 RX 330 AWD got 23.2 to 25.3 MPG measured on that route but only 1 trip so far. The first part of that trip was in sub-zero weather with snow and ice conditions. I used regular gas all the way. My 04 would get mostly premium on that route and got better mileage with it.

I spend a lot of attention to a "look ahead" style of driving. I have a pretty light foot when accelerating and do a lot of coasting when it looks like braking will be needed ahead. I'm not a hyper-miler by any stretch but I really don't have any problem meeting or exceeding the EPA HWY estimates.

I am glad your gas mileage was so close to the EPA highway estimate of 24. Mine was less.

I have RX350 2013 and my gas mileage is 15-20% worse than advertised. This is my 3rd RX, I owned 2006 and 2008 models and gas mileage on this one is the worst out of three! I am really disappointed with this new car (I own RX touring edition and IMO most of design changes made it worse and less user friendly than 2008 model). I don't know what's wrong with Lexus engineers, but this is clearly my last Lexus.

This is normal for cars in Toronto. Cold weather plus 10% ethanol in the gas and the worst traffic in North America will do that. My 4 cylinder 2003 Camry is getting 18mpg and my RX 15mpg. I am not a slow driver though. Turbo and diesel cars are better suited to my driving style with the huge low end torque.

I find it interesting that there is so much variation in mileage, for essentially the same car. I'd like to know if the variables mentioned could really make that much difference in the mileages. If not, what is causing these discrepancies? I think we're talking an average of 20-30% variation, with up to 50% in extreme cases.
My 2013 RX350 averages 18-19mpg around town, and 22-24mpg on the interstates. Wish it was more, but it seems to be an average for this forum. BTW, when I measure my mileage, I use average since fill up.....not average mpg.......which in my car is about 20.3mpg over 13K miles. Also, the computer says my average speed is 30mph, which is up from 21mph when I bought it 12,000 miles ago. I don't know why Lexus included that useless parameter.

Because NOT everyone drives in the same way, same route, same temperature, same elevation etc.
JUST like any other curve, you fall into the middle...or the NORM, as the EPA has predicted.
Using the " After Refueling" , i get 23-24 which again is on the sweet spot of a combined city and highway driving.

Average mpg, just like trip A or trip B is easier to reset and can measure a specific leg of your drive.
You can account +/- 1 to 3 mpg vs a calculated one.

Average speed can also be reset anytime. You simply need to HOLD ( 2 secs) the ENTER button on the right steering wheel.

2013 RX 350 FWD on regular unleaded (87 octane) from Costco

Here are my Average mpg, After Refueling and Average speeds.

90% highway/ Freeway and 10% city driving.
outside temp is 63F
Tires have 35 psi on all 4s
cruise control set to 65mph, although i normally go 70-75 to pass
2 adults and 1 5 month old baby.
strollers and baby stuffs in the trunk








Other cars in our garage are listed on my signature.
So in summary,
it's all about perspective.
From a Prius driver stand point, THIS is unacceptable
From a Range Rover driver, this is WOW!

i can Confidently say, that the RX 350 meets and even exceeds the EPA estimate.

2010 RX350 Costco 91 octane

32psi- tires, heavy footed pedal person, don't like coasting at all, average 70mph - 75mph highway, pretty satisfied with my average.

18 mpg - 20 mpg around town
22mpg- 25mpg highway

35PSI tires, coast a lot and staying under 70mph

17MPG around town, 20MPG on the freeway. Averaging 18.5 overall.

At 40,000 miles, I'm getting a solid 20.2 mpg on my 2010 RX 350 (FWD) using premium fuel.
The computer always says 16.1, even after I reset it several times. Tires were 32 PSI
I drive average about 80 going cross-country (Texas)

3/17/14 214.0 14.90 14.4 3.769 90% city - short drives

So, we are at: 17.9 avg MPG ~ 14.4 last MPG ~ 22.8 (10/20/13) best MPG

I get pretty much the same mileage as you do.

But at least here in CT you need to take into account winter vs. summer blend gasoline.

I know in the summer I average probably 1-2 MPG better than in the winter based solely on the change in gasoline. This is true for all my cars.

Almost OK (20 mpg) at next to last tank full with mostly highway driving. Back to mostly city and just above 16. All this at almost 6 months and just over 3600 miles.
