Almost 30 mpg in 2007 RX 350 FWD
I have a 2007 FWD RX 350 (90K) and going on I10 from San Antonio to Jax I was getting 29.4 doing just around 70 mph ... It was a good tail wind ... Coming back I was getting about 27 doing the same speed so the wind plays a big roll.

My neighbor says when he travels from California to Nevada and beyond, he can feel the difference in power, and gas mileage, when he replaces California gas with Nevada gas. I've read that California refineries blend gas differently for Cali because of air pollution rules, thus reducing MPG. Also, I've read that we have summer blend and winter blend gas, and this is supposed to justify the high price of gas here. Go figure.
BTW, we are hovering around $4/gal for regular in the Sacramento area.
We get 20-21 MPG in mixed driving in our '11RX, same for the Highlander.
Any comments? Maybe this is why your mileage may vary, as they say.

It's called ethanol and it is the worst thing to happen to gasoline in this decade. All it does it dilute the gas and provide approximately 5-10% less mpg than the tested rating since the EPA only tests against 100% pure. The only gas in my area that is ethanol free is v power by shell.

Just got back from another weekend road trip, from Everett, Washington to Portland, Oregon and back, 200 miles each way.
Despite very heavy traffic on the way down (took over 5 hours), we averaged 24.5 mpg in our AWD RX. Our return trip, again with heavy traffic, returned 23.4 mpg. I could not be happier with this mileage. Both ways included miles of stop and go traffic, in between 80 mph stretches, and everything in between.
And as always, the RX proved yet again to be an amazing road trip companion, being comfortable, quiet, roomy and smooth. It makes long drives effortless.

I drive very conservatively, coast to stop light, gentle acceleration. My wife has no concept of driving to save gas mileage, accelerates to a stop light and is heavy on the pedal. When I get in her car and check to trip computer I see her overall MPG is 25-27. I can squeeze of 23.5 MPG if I am luckily on the highway. Last week, with cruise set at 65 on the highway for 90 miles I got 23.7. The same drive with her Tuscon gets 30mpg. Whoever said you can't compare a 4 cylinder to a 6 cylinder is right. It is just a fact that I am disappointed with the MPG. A lot of people have made good points, like tail wind vs. head wind. Another factor I just realized is the sun roof opened can effect MRG by as much as 2 MPG. My question is: with 75,000 should I sell it and buy a new fully loaded Tuscon for $29,500??? Will the MPG over the years make up for short term loss of depreciation? Which will depreciate more a 2010 Lexus with 150,000 or a 2014 Tusson with $75,000 in 3 years. Anybody know what a 2010 RX with 150,000 will be worth in 3 years. I drive 24,000 miles per year. My savings in gas with current gas prices in my area around $3.85 would be $1200 +- per year.
get a civic or a corolla , preferably used with low milage.
you can get a base one for less than $15,000 for sure.
you can put 300,000 miles with very minimal maintenance.
24,000 miles/yr is a lot.
i wouldn't put it on any luxury SUV
and i don't think you need the SUV everyday in your commute.
as for resale value.
the time you cross the warranty line ( Lexus is 4 years/ 50,000 miles), you take a big hit.
You can always get extended warranty up to 100,000 -120,000 miles
however, with your current situation, i wouldn't.

That's funny cos the Tucson and RX are in totally different classes. I have a 2012 Sportage AWD that is on the same platform as the Tucson. The ride of the Sportage is no where near the comfort of the RX AWD hands down. Even with the tiny i4 engine in the Sportage it doesn't get much better mpg's than the RX (18 / 21 & 18 / 20 respectively). With the mpg's being insignificantly different, I'll take the RX any day of the week over the Sportage. I've read on the Sportage forums people getting 26+ mpg mixed even with the GDI engine, unfortunately that's not the case for me. So all in all, I'm getting rid of the Sportage and looking to get into a 2012 RX AWD in the near future.
This is based only on my experiences.
Enjoy your Tucson

Well, I'll chime in on how my 2014 MDX compares to my 2011 RX350 on gas mileage since they are direct competitors. Both are AWD, and in the Lexus the best I could do on a round trip from LA to Palm Springs was 24-25mpg. In the Acura I can get a little over 30mpg (32mpg going there and 29mpg coming back). I'm really amazed at the fuel economy in the MDX. Plus it's got a usable 3rd row, 16" widescreen rear entertainment with split screen and HDMI inputs, auto pilot (adaptive cruise that steers for you), it handles better, and has an app that tells you vehicle status and can remotely lock/unlock the car. Downside? The Lexus has better fit and finish, has a softer ride, better Nav/MFD, and was actually cheaper than the MDX. I basically got the MDX because of the third row but the increased mpg was a nice bonus.

The MDX is a great car, and out performs the RX in many ways. But when you mentioned fuel economy, you forgot to mention that the MDX uses premium gas. In my area that would be an extra 40-50 cents a gallon. My son has an MDX, and says it's very noticeable if regular is used by mistake. Also, he gets significantly less than 30 mpg. That being said.....it is an excellent car.
