I was averaging 16 in summer and much lower in winter on my 2013 RX AWD. Traded in March of this year for the RXHybrid. Just could not tolerate that mpg. The hybrid is great excellent mpg. Plus I drive very conservatively.

In one year our 2010 has a 24 mph average speed and 17.8 mpg. I wish it was higher but we do a lot of short trips. There are no freeways here in rural Vermont and we have plenty of snow. This car replaced our 15 year old Outback. It got about the same mileage but was on snow tires year round.

Took to dealer twice to check what the problem was. No problem--- told me that is the mpg your going to get. Anyone telling you differently is blowing smoke. They are well known for bad mpg. The only way you will get better mpg is if your driving down hill. But--- what goes down must go back up.

I have never gotten anywhere near that low in my AWD RX350. And no, I am not blowing smoke. My overall average is right at 20 mpg over 23k miles. My worst ever recorded was 17.8 mpg and my best was 26.1 mpg.

The more car spends idling, more stop sings and lights on your commute the lower your MPG will be.
My 4 mile commute takes me 15 minutes = 16 MPG. No one is blowing smoke each one of you comparing performance based on your personal commute. For same commute I get same 16MPG driving Acura TL (30MPG on freeway) and I get 20MPG driving Camry (38MPG on freeway). That is why comparing MPG is useless exercise. At lease include your MPH with your MPG.

You can also (at least with nav) check your mileage by the minute. I think the car gets very low mileage for the first 5 minutes in an effort to reduce emissions. Even my Prius gets gets relatively poor mileage for the first 5 minutes.

Thus a lot of short trips = very low mileage.

Smile gas mileage brand

I just discovered that gas mileage can depend on the brand of gas. I use regular 87 octane from the value gas stations like Costco, Arco, Valero, or Pilot, and get 20 mpg highway driving. But the last two times, I filled my 2015 RX350 with more expensive Chevron gas, and I got 26 mpg.

Lately I have been using the 89 Octane fuel from Weiss and Shell. It has more power on the 89 Octane gas.

ALL these stations you mentioned are tapping from the same reserve.
they just differ in the detergents and other additives.
So, unless your Chevron is from a different state, then that is placebo effect right there.

a little background, my brother works for Halliburton.

2014 RX 350. I've been using Chevron since day one. Only thing I changed was using 87 octane instead of the initial 91 octane. No difference in gas mileage, but a difference in gas costs.

I live close to a "tank farm". Major brands and generic brands fill their delivery tankers there. I am 99% certain all the gas stored there comes from the BP refinery in Whiting, IN.

He claimed better mileage on it, 20 at least.

Gas mileage is kind of important to me and if I bought a used 2012-2014 RX and averaged in the 15-17-18 MPG would be a bit upset. I thought with a vehicle advertising 18-24 it should consistently get around 20 and close to the 24 for trips.
Read back a bit in this thread. I had a beautiful AWD 2013 RX 350. I drive very conservative. The best I ever got was about 18 and that was on the open road. My driving is mostly around town. I was at about 16. In the colder weather it would drop down to below 14. I took it into the dealer more than once. Nothing wrong. One service manager told me "to be honest with you, your mpg is about what others get. I know some say better mpg. I can only relay to you what the Lexus dealer told me. My mpg reflected that. I only kept for a year and a few months because I was not going to put up with that mpg. I bought a new 2015 RX450 h. Mpg is great. You could buy a nice 2010-13-14 for not all that much more than the standard RX350 depending on the year. So that's it--- I hope that helps you out.
