According to the manufacturer, I should be getting 24 MPG or 10.2 Km/L. So, what am I missing? Is there something I need to do in case something is not right with the engine? Mind you, the temperature outside was around -11 degrees F.

so you’re getting more than what is claimed. What’s the issue?

Many things can contribute to that.
Depending on the age of your car, most aren't worth getting fixed.
If it's under 100,000 miles, I think it's worth getting the engine checked out.
  • Valves get dirty and they can be cleaned.
  • Fuel injectors get clogged up, especially if you use fuel from unknown sources and change brands a lot.
  • Air filters are easy to change out and sometimes that helps, too.
  • Very cold outside temperature can also affect milage.

I drive a 2010 RX350 with 120,000 miles on it.
I'm retired now, so I drive less than 7,000 miles a year.
City 18 mpg
Highway 20 mpg
92 octane
I get it serviced once a year - oil change and tire rotation.

I absolutely love the car. It's trouble free, reliable, comfortable and safe.
It was a lease car I bought with 24,000 miles on it and it cost me $30,000
I have never bought a new car - ever.
If you're driving less than 7000, you might want to buy a trickle charger for your battery. That's what I did and saved me from having to get a few jumps. At least, that's the way it is with Chicago weather. Maybe in Texas, it's a whole different situation. Good Luck!

It's a shame that 2010 and 2011 RX350s require premium 91-octane fuel. The best MPG I've gotten so far is 21 mpg cruising at around 50 MPH - 60 MPH on a 30 mile commute. For city driving, I'm lucky to get 12mpg, but more often than not I'll be closer to 10 in NYC.

I recently did a 700-mile road trip and averaged 17-18 mpg through upstate NY which has pretty big hills and speed limits up to 70mph.

That's reassuring. I thought my 2015 RX350 F Sport AWD was cheating on me giving only 13.5 mpg on city driving.

Default HORRIBLE mpg on my 2010 RX350

Hey

I have a 2010 RX350 with about 112,000 miles on it. Drives awesome obviously, nothing ever really broke besides a couple interior parts and the trunk being weird. However the MPG on this car is disgusting. On the highway it gets 22 and in the city it gets anywhere from 14~16 tops. Keep in mind this is on Texas roads where even in the “city” we are going 50+.

Should I be concerned? Is there a way to get my car’s MPG up?

Thanks!

Have you checked your tire pressure recently? Maintenance history?

Maintenance has always been on time and tire pressure is good

But after seeing that report you linked, may just be the car. Might as well get a camry instead at this point haha

any trade-in / buy losses if you bought a camry will far exceed any extra you're spending on gas today.

but you do you.

My '14 gets around 16 in the city if I'm lucky. What the monrony sticker states re: city/hwy and real life are two different things. My city driving is what I consider true city driving, go one block, stop, get on a main'ish' road, stop another 2 blocks up for a light, wait 2-3 minutes, then go 1/2 mile (if you're lucky) to stop again. What the government has tested as city/highway driving and what most of us experience in real life is 2 different things.

The RX400h gets around 30(+-2) so I think your mpg is accurate. But I think you can get it up by not gunning it on a red light. Lets not forget that the RX is a 4000lb beast.

Sounds accurate, our 2011 RX350 gets worse. We're at around 12mpg city and 20/21mpg highway with as low as 9mpg over here in NYC; this is with premium fuel as well. I have to drive very reservedly in the right lane on my 25-mile commute to work (90% highway) and keep below 65mph (RPMs are at 2k at 65mph) while coasting down hills and barely accelerating uphill to get that 20mpg. We averaged about 17-18mpg on our last road trip (roughly 700 miles) and only got 320 miles of range out of a tank.

There's a sticked MPG thread on the main page if you didn't look at that already

Doesn't have to be a new Camry if they're trading it in. I'm currently in the market for a 3rd gen Prius for around the value of my RX350 because I can't justify getting a maximum of 20mph with the amount of driving I do. Cheaper insurance, better fuel economy, and can drive in the HOV lane at any time. You'd still be saving money after replacing a bad hybrid battery at the cost of driving an econobox vs an SUV.
