the 3gen RX has 10,000 mile oil intervals so it shouldnt be any problem.

I am very OCD about this thing so, I changed mine at 2K just to be sure. I will have Lexus do the 10K. when it's due. My problem is I am at 4500 miles and approaching 1 year. I have to ask them what they will do at this point 10K or 1 year, which rules.

The manual says, "whichever occurs first"

Why the hell would you wait 10k to change the oil, especially on your first oil change? Synthetic or not, 10k is too long. Also all types of metal shards and shavings come off of a fresh engine into the oil, I insisted on changing it at 1.5k. Waiting 10k for your first change is pure stupidity to save a few bucks or an hours time IMO.

I agree, the first change is crucial. Get it done at 5k.

I understand what you guys are saying, but the manual puts the first oil change at 10,000 miles. Why would Lexus do that? Isn't it to their dealer's advantage to schedule one earlier since it is more money. For that matter, wouldn't the dealership recommend having it changed earlier if it was necessary just to get the extra service in?

Thanks for all of ur answers and advises. First of all, as I believe, the first and second oil change are complimentary, I don't have to spend the a dime on the services. The point is, I don't wanna drive almost 4 hrs to the Lexus dealer just to get an oil change and I called in last night to Lexus (General Inquiries: 1-800-255-3987), they said, the third generation RX doesn't require or need oil change for the very first 10000 miles, additional, we have this RX since last year August 2010, and we have around 2700 miles on it right now after 6 months, more than likely that it won't reach to 7000 miles by August 2011. When the time come in August, we shall call the Lexus dealer and pick up my RX for an oil change.

As they said, the third generation have no problem to get oil change until 10000 miles.
Thank again for all your replies.

But I understand those who received the 5K and 10K before Lexus changed the maintenance schedule will get another additional service free. I don't have letter and new maintenance book with me.

follow the manual, if it says 10k, stick with it. besides, you got a warranty anyway...

I was curious whether Lexus uses a "special break-in" oil. From responses so far, it sounds like they do not do that anymore. When break-in oil was used in the past by various manufacturers, they recommended that one not change the oil for a specific period of time. If no break-in oil, then it does not matter. One could change oil at 500 miles, 5000 miles, or 10,000 miles if they so desire. I will likely change mine between 5,000-10,000 mile intervals based on the changing color of the oil (~ equivalent to the accumulation of particulants which change oil color over time/use) and type of driving that year.

Good comments, as I did not realize that. You must be a reader of this website.

oil is changed every 10K, but you are still 'supposed' to go in for tire rotations and maintaining fluid levels
