Question Auto Wipers - A mind of their own?

So over the past week of driving my new 2011 RX350 I have had the auto wipers set to on so when/if it rains they automatically come on. However at random times when there is no rain the wipers come alive an make a sweep across the windshield. Has any one else experienced this?

Yeah, mine does that too. Some of those systems pick up sound so something may have triggered it? I drove down 101 near Brisbane and mine wiped 1 time. For the most part it works well. All these features are nice and hopefully we don't have a lot of problems with it. I'm lost when I drive my 04 4runner, I still need to turn on the headlights, wipers, dim the high beams, push a button on the remote to get in and put a key in the ignition to start it. Hey on a side note I see you are from San Bruno, are you a Toto's Pizza Fan?

YES! this did not used to happen in my RX330, but they must have changed something in the sensor on the new one. I have since changed my sensitivity on the stalk to 1 notch before the least sensitive and it seems to have toned down the random wiping--but it is still happening.

My wife just asked me about that today - it is happening to her as well. We will try some sensitivity adjustments to see if that helps.

Why leave this on if it's not raining? Wiping a dry windshield will lead to scratches, in my experience.

Good to know I am not the only one experiencing this....I don't think I have had Toto's pizza - we like Xtreme. I have another question has anyone had issues getting the NavWeather to work on the RX? I called XM they said there was an issue but the issue had nothing to do with the vehicle itself.

I leave it off when driving in sunny day. Just turn it on when it rains.

I have a lifetime subscription because I got a good deal. When you 1st tune to it you only see a blank map. It has to have time to download and process the info from the satellite so it can take 2-5 minutes or sometimes less. But if you have a subscription it should come up in time. If you have the GPS map up and have the traffic/weather subscription and bad weather is in your geographic area, there will be a bad weather icon on the left of the map. Clicking on that will also bring up the weather map.

It's not based on local radar so it might not be real accurate.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I love the auto function and leave it on all the time. It always works flawlessly for us although I do have the sensitivity set all the way down.

I leave the auto function on too except in the winter for obvious reasons. I wonder why the '11s are super sensitive. I don't have this problem on my '10. Only thing that happens is the hyper wipe on turns.

If it is set too sensitive even a bug smashing into that area can set it off.We have big bugs here in Wisconsin.

No such issues with my rain-sensing wipers on my 2010 RX. This is one of my favorite features on my car, and I loved having it on the '07 RX also. The only time I might have to help the wipers along is when there is a light mist-type rain and they don't always come on when I think they need to, so i do a quick flick with the wiper stalk. But, otherwise, they work great!
