I don't know if it's been discussed before, but your old iPhone makes an excellent semi-permanent audio player in the RX. I upgraded to a Verizon iPhone in 2/11, leaving me with an AT&T 32gb iPhone collecting dust. Clearing out the apps allowed me to download almost 30gb of music into it. This connects to the built-in usb cord in the console, with the iPhone itself sitting on the top shelf of it, hidden away. This allows it to always be charged, and doesn't take up a bluetooth connection. Songs/playlists/etc. are fully accessible on the display via remote touch. Finally, your newer iPhone doesn't lose out on charging cycles, which are limited in number overall, and your newer iPhone can keep its regular bluetooth integration and easy removal from the vehicle.

grt, Krypttic makes a good point. However I find it so hard to part with my Apple stuff.
One thing I might suggest, is putting the iPhone in "Airplane Mode". I've convinced myself it saves on battery life and makes the iPhone available sooner when starting the car.
I bury mine deep in the console and never see it except to update playlists or install the latest software. I have another USB cable hanging out of the console to charge our other iPhones and iPads. Plus an AUX cable to play the iPads.
