What percentage of tints are the rear and back window?
I'm trying to determine what tints to put on my (soon to be) RX450h. I've always had Limo tints (5%) on all my previous vehicles in the front driver/passenger and added tints to the rear to match the limo in the front. I'm undecided whether or not to stick with the limos on the RX or just reduce it. So I was wondering if anyone knows what the percentage of the tints are on the rear and back window?

Thanks. I usually ignore city/state restrictions on tints. I've always had limo tints on the front drivers/passenger windows, even though they were illegal. Out of 25+ years of owning several vehicles, I've only been stopped (I think) around 8 times, ticketed 3 times with all of them being dismissed. This time, I may go a little lighter than limo tints, unfortunately, the percentage would still be illegal here.

Just out of curiosity, I have to ask: when you've been stopped, has a police officer ever approached your car with gun drawn, or hand on holstered gun? I've been told that they really dislike dark tints on front windows because they can't see whether there's someone inside with a gun.

As mentioned above 35% all around is legal here in IL. I recently had our car tinted at 40%. In checking aorund I found that factory is in the 3%-5% range so I was cautious as I don't want the hassle of being stooped and if I do I would checkout at 35%. The 40% is OK for me and looks nice.

Tinting on ours is not for looks but for comfort. It's less strain on our eyes with dark interiors escpecially on bright sunny days. 35% doesn't help decrease brightness if the interior is light colored. Glad we got 20%.

I should have added that so far in this really hot summer the car stays cooler both while driving and when it sits. Definitely less glare while driving too.

Until recently, Illinois law allows 35% tint on front. Prior, they did not allow anything between between the driver and window, even clear tints, but it's hard to determine clear from no tints, unless you were stopped for a violation.
I heard of similar horror stories. I was fortunate that the officers that stopped me, weren't that much of an ars.

Rear vision on the RX is mediocre at best, there are lots of blind spots when backing in next to curbs even with rear camera and Parking Assist. Putting 5% on really makes that a more difficult proposition.
I have 35% on my front windows which is a bit lighter than the back doors and rear window but looks good anyway. Just spent three days in Palm Springs (110+ deg) and found the a/c on the RX works very efficiently, it cooled the interior fast. I really don't think a 5% tint is going to be that much more efficient than what is on there from the factory. Personally I think the limo tints look too dark, and aren't they pretty much going out of style on the West Coast? To each their own.
